Sometimes it is acid and not real hunger are you taking an acid blocker if not you might want to try prilosec. Also are you eating bad carbs bread rice chips cookies, I know that when I eat those things the hungrier I am cleanse yourself from eating those for three days and see how it goes. Best wishes

Figure out if it's true hunger or just thinking hunger. Drink water have a protein shake go for a walk. Are you tracking your meals? getting enough protein? I can go on and on but you know what you need to do.

Are you pre or post op?

Pre-op, I don't have a ton of advice for you as I had the same issue.

Post-op, It could be acid... Are you taking a PPI? Head hunger? Thirsty?Emotional stress triggering a "need to eat" response? Only you have the answer there. If nothing else, talk to your doctor.

How far out are you?

Here's what I'm learning.  Just when I think I know what to do, things change and I have to adjust.  I am getting hungrier again, it came on kind of suddenly, but my previous experience has shown me that I am just going to have to make some changes and I trust it will be okay again.

Here's some things I do.  I drink drink drink a lot.  People cannot believe how much I drink (okay, you guys would - I mean regular folks).  I drink an entire Bunn pot of decaf coffee iced every afternoon, I drink a liter of hot tea in the morning and most of a liter of water.  I use almond milk in my iced coffee, and I have found it very satisfying, more so than plain water.

Also, when I am struggling with hunger, I concentrate on foods that will keep me full.  Chicken breast and fibrous vegetables (like cabbage and broccoli) are the best.  A lot of really good, healthy foods are just not as satisfying for me (low-fat tuna salad, for example).  Dill pickles are surprisingly satisfying as well (surprising to me).

I also have a lot of head issues around food.  For example, anxiety of any sort feels like hunger.  The reverse is true, so when I am truly hungry, I often feel quite anxious.  So I have to spend some time sorting out whether the feeling is anxiety (usually work-related) or hunger, and try to come up with an appropriate response (eating doesn't help the work anxiety!).  Sometimes that voice in my head telling me to EAT (the monkey on my back) is running around screaching and rattling the bars.  I've felt like that recently, and that can be scary, which is also related (in my mind) to hungry.  I have to make sure I have the time and energy to deal with feelings-masquerading-as-hunger and all that jazz - I don't do well on autopilot for too long.

Maybe some of the vets will chime in.

I'm gonna assume you are post op.
1. If you aren't on a ppi like prilosec, try that, and also...
2. Lower carbs, you may need really low at first to detox, then gradually go up a bit. I would aim for less than 40 grams during the losing phase. You may need to stay pretty low carb forever too, depending on your body.
3. If you are eating anything sweet, detox from tis too, all of it. Fake sugar as well as real.
4. Careful with fruit also, just a little, lower carb is better ( berries)
5. Start every meal with dense protein first, then veggies.
6. Plan your meals 3-4 meals, whatever, but absolutely nothing in between, not one bite!
This may sound hard but I promise it works. It is only hard at first while you get used to it, then it makes everything so much easier. We are different than other people, that's why we needed surgery, our eating needs are different too, often forever. Start finding other enjoyable hobbies besides food. I'm right there in this struggle with you, you can do it!!

When you feel hungry you really have to stop and figure out exactly whats going on.  Take a pause and decide:

Is this head hunger or a physical feeling?  That can be hard to determine, especially early on.

If its a physical feeling - it could be either physical hunger or an acid problem.  I had a hard time distinguishing between the  two for a while after I came off the first 3 months PPI.  I started taking one again when I realized that what I was feeling was after eating and could not possibly be physical hunger.

Physical hunger can also be triggered by food choices.  If you are carb sensitive and eating a lot of carbs they will make you crave more of them.  Focusing on dense proteins that stay in your stomach will help you feel full longer.

Early on after surgery - it is most likely head hunger.  In that case I stop and let myself go through what I am feeling emotionally.  Then I try to deal with those emotions.  Usually the hunger goes away and I have learned something new.

What acid reducer are you on? I told you a while back to get on a PPI girl....i hope you did it. Trust me...that really would be the only reason you are hungry every two hours over an extended period of time, especially if you are eating dense protein for meals.

Why dont you give us an idea of your daily menu/meals and how much you are eating?

I just did almost 2 months of straight protein shakes for all of my meals because I couldn't deal with the acid reflux anymore and ironically, I had no hunger for almost two months. Now that im eating again, my acid problems are back and im hungrier right after I eat than I am when I just dont eat at all.

I am hungry very often too....  I make a protien shake everyday (isopure powder, water, ice, 1tsp of peanut butter, 1 bannana and some berries****ep this with me every second of everyday and I sip on it when I am hungry..... a few sips takes the hunger away.  I also find the higher the protien (with my food all day) the less hunger I have.

Good luck!
