Nope, I'm weird and I wanted to keep it and I got a big ol' "NO!"

So I did what I did when they told me I couldn't keep my tonsils, asked if I could see it! Still a no... Alas, no stomach in a jar for me... lol.

Though I know some surgeons are willing to take a picture for you, doesn't hurt to ask.

I actually asked if I could see it or at least see a picture, doc said no. He did take a few pictures of the stomach and surgery from inside showing where it was cut etc, he gave me those. It was really neat to see. Glad to know I'm not the only one with this request!

Hi Sleeva!

My doc is going to take a picture on his smartphone for me and just text it to me after surgery! If they will/can take a picture for you, have him do it this way. (My doc said the scope camera isn't very good so it won't be a very good pic).

Had I known my mom would be so curious I would have asked for her. lol

When I had a mammoplasty a few years back my doctor asked me if it was okay if a group of super smart advanced high school students observed the surgery. I figured since I'd be draped and doped that would be fine. I apparently was one of the few people who said yes. Too bad - those kids are the next generation of smarty pants who will learn how to do the things we've benefited from.

I did kind of want to see a video of that particular surgery....

One of my best friends is in medical equipment sales and has sat in on hundreds of surgeries (spinal mostly). She totally would have loved to have scrubbed up for either of my major surgeries, and taken photos! LOL! I placated her with photos of my incisions.

LOL you are too funny!

I work at a hospital as a medical photographer and surgeons can request us to come in to surgery for a specimen photo at any time. Our surgeons also have a surgery camera designated for the scrub nurse to use if we are unavailable. Taking a photo with their smartphones could be considered a violation of HIPAA privacy laws. Even though there is nothing identifiable about the image, it is unsecure. Just fyi, not trying to start anything.

Ask your surgeon though cause there is usually a way to get a photo done. I didn't personally ask for one since that was my department and I wasn't "out" at work yet. Good luck to you!
Thanks for the info! Best of luck to you as well..:)
