Reactive Hypoglycemia 3 1/2 years out?!?!
So I am 3 1/2 yrs out from my sleeve surgery. I did not ever get to the weight I wished to be at, but i was happy. A year and 1/2 ago i went through a VERY stressful period od emotional turmoil and suddenly developed this hypoglycemia. Since then, my blood sugars have been ALL OVER the charts, and have dropped to seriously low points where i pass out. On a 3 hour gtt, my third draw was a 37 and i wasnt even symptomatic. I cannot control my sugars and therefore carb cravings, and have gained back 90% of my lost weight. To add insult, when i stay completely on course snd eat exactly right, i cannot lose ANYTHING. I am so lost right now, just dont know what to do. Anyone gone through anything like this? How did you overcome it?
GAINING LIFE one day at a time!!!!!
I have dealt with hypoglycemia, but not significant regain issues. You have to get your sugar and carbs under control. Monitor to see if you go low after eating a lot of carb and sugar (reactive hypglycemia). I do best when I eat 30 net carbs at a meal, and 15 net at a snack. 3 meals, 3 snacks a day. The sugar and carbs are creating a viscous cycle that is spurring hunger and cravings- deal with the sugar and carbs and you will feel batter and have better luck managing your overall calories Go back to basics- protein first, a little veggies. Weigh and measure everything!

If you search on this site there are a TON of posts about RH, which for the vast majority of people is easily controlled by diet.
You need a balance of protein and healthy fat with limited carbs in small regular meals 5-6 times a day. Eliminate the white carbs from your diet (bread, pasta, rice and any processed carbs) and you will probably find a miracle cure!!! (It's actually the way we are all SUPPOSED to eat after WLS!)
If your sugar does drop low, do not use glucose or juice (unless you are near to blacking out) but have a small carb + protein+ fat snack (milk or a cracker with cheese) - this will stop the low/high/low cycle that occurs with RH.
