Today is my birthday...

I haven't been excited or depressed about getting older, really indifferent. I was frustrated by my family that insisted on a Birthday cake even though I said I didn't want one. I was very appreciative that my ex husband helped our 5 year old son make me brownies... Does anyone see where this is going???  I feel like everyone was trying to set me up for failure! I will be honest... I ate a bite of cake and pretended to eat the brownie for my son's sake.... you could've broken teeth out with those bad boys :). Today was the first time since prior to my preop diet that I have had any type of sweets. I think I did ok... Honestly, it wasn't even that tasty. How do you all get people around you to change their mindset? I am working hard and am just tired. My weightloss is the topic of conversation, but pushed to the side for cake! Ugh...

You have another year before it is birthday time again.  By then your family will be used to how you eat.  Give them a substitute for cake- maybe a fruit platter by then would satisfy their need to celebrate with cake.  I think you did great.  Move on today.

Happy birthday! not so sure it was a conscious effort to throw you off track or just a cultural norm. Cake for birthdays is just ingrained intro our culture. Appreciate the gesture and stay on track. Maybe next year tell them ahead of time no cake please. Glad you survived the temptation!

Happy Birthday! Personally, I see nothing wrong with a little cake on your birthday, but I am one of those rare carb-eaters ;) Just listen to your body and watch out for cravings now that it's over. It's a matter of jumping right back on track after it's over!

Enjoy your day and do NOT spend it beating yourself up! Again, happy birthday! I hope it's the best one yet :)

Happy birthday!

You can't change what other people do. Just do what is right for you, and it sounds like you handled it perfectly.

Happy birthday.  I also think you did well.  I concurr that it is normal for people to make cake.  You do have a whole year to retrain your family.  I suggest at every birthday say, when my birthday rolls around, I would like......have a great day.

It's Okay one bite will not hurt you, it's for you son. After awhile everything will be back to normal with your WLS. For now enjoy your day.
