Very Recently Sleeved, and (dumb?) Question About Weighing Yourself

Hello Everyone: I'm about 2 and a half weeks after having my Gastric Sleeve procedure, and doing pretty well (I'm one week into mushy foods, and that transition has admittedly been more of a challenge than I'd expected.)  I had a slight hiccup today when I weighed myself and saw that I'd gone up a pound from my weight two days ago.  Of course I said "Whoa, calm down" because it's just a pound, and not long after lunch, but it did make me think that it's a conundrum - how often did you weigh yourself after surgery?  Were you ever surprised by slight fluctuations up?  Did you ever think you might be weighing yourself too often?  What's a normal, healthy schedule of weighing to get into?  I'd really like to hear some thoughts on this one, thank you.

Lots of people say, "don't weigh yourself every day, you'll go crazy!" as if it's a blanket statement for everyone and I completely disagree.  I weigh myself daily and it rocks.  Here's why -- http://www.ewal.net/2012/10/05/day-to-day-weight-fluctuation s-and-mental-stress/

TrendWeight is an amazing, awesome, free tool that really helps me to see my weight in a healthy way.  It lets me focus on the trend of my weight instead of on the day to day fluctuations.  I've learned that my weight does fluctuate, sometimes in the upward direction, but it's totally no big deal because that trend says I'm losing at a super steady rate and averaging around 10 pounds per month which is awesome :D

TrendWeight seems really fun. I'm definitely going to give it a try. I am definitely able to weigh myself every day without going bananas.

Gwen, this was an interesting article, thanks for including the link!  Quite a thoughtful analysis and take on the analytics of the numbers.

  1. one time  a day, girly, girl- same time in the same clothes...for accountability only.  Let your behavior the day before inform you of how you are doing..the scale is a fickle mistress... she'll screw you  and let you manipulate the numbers....IF you are working your program, the weight will come off.  The scales are good for trends only...

For my money, daily weighing is the way to go. It puts you in touch with your normal weight fluctuations.  If you can eat 600-800 calories and occasionally (or more than occasionally) see an uptick - then don't panic when you are in maintenance and see a little bit of a fluctuation.  Also, I got in my head (based on experience and articles posted here) that stalls with some uptick of weight usually was accompanied with size shrinkage.  So I came to see this as a positive thing (e.g. oh, I'm up 2 pounds and I'm doing everything right..getting ready to drop a size).  It takes water to move fat around and water retention equals weight gain.  So don't sweat the daily number, but keep in touch with your body and how it is trying to do what you want it to do... shrink!

I was told to not weigh myself until my first visit with the surgeon (2weeks after surgery)...yeah right!!  I have weighed myself everyday since I got home from the hospital.  Last week I experienced the same thing... the scale went up a few pounds.  I freaked out a little (there possibly were some tears).  It also was they start of about a week stall.  But that soon ended and I am back on track!  Your body needs time to adjust, its totally normal!

I am over 2 weeks post op as well and I am up 3 pounds, then I realized it was just T.O.M.   I weigh myself everyday and have not deviated from plan.   I know the weight/inches will come off as long as I do what I'm supposed to do.  If you are indeed stalled, measure yourself, I bet you are still losing inches.
