I had no clue there was a way to calculate how many calories we burn doing absolutely nothing! I was happy to see my BMR is roughly 3000 calories, and I've set my goal for now at 1800 calories (I'm pre-op 1st consult next Monday). I wish I knew about this stuff years ago!

I was also excited to see in 2 weeks I've lost roughly 8lbs! Can't wait to see how far I can go before surgery!

I don't want to rain on your parade but be VERY suspicious of any online calculator for BMR - they are notoriously wrong :-(  The best way to get your BMR is to have it professionally tested at a college or facility that has the machine where you blow into a mask for at least 10 minutes and they calculate it based off that.  Much more accurate...and I guarantee you, unless you are between 400-500 lbs. (and maybe you are) there is no way you are burning 3000 calories at rest per day.  Just not happening...

Most of us who were morbidly obese have wrecked our metabolism with constant yo-yo dieting over the years and our BMR is not close to "normal".  I had mine tested after 6 months post-op and I think I was around 1400 calories for BMR, which I thought was great!  It might be a bit more now because of the amount of muscle I've gained through intense exercise.

As you lose weight you will absolutely lose muscle, no two ways about it.  As you lose muscle, your BMR goes down and pretty dramatically at that.  So just know that you will have to adjust those calories as time goes on.

Best of luck to you on this journey - you're off to a great start!

I am actually 467 was 475 so I reckon if it's not accurate it should at least be ballpark. I used the MFP calculator.
