How is it that after losing 70lbs since May 1st (30 preop and 40 post) The only people who say anything are the one who know I had surgery. Not that I need the complements but it would be nice for someone to notice.

Maybe people are afraid/cautious to say something, especially if it comes out wrong?? I agree, it would be nice to receive a compliment - we are human after all. How about changing your hair or major clothing piece and see if someone notices?

Continued success to you!

What she ^^^ said.

It'll happen more and more as the process progresses.  I work in a building with 700+ people moving around.  I've had people I have NEVER met stop and talk to me about wait loss.  Those surprise me the most because it's people I had not idea were watching me.

Bottom line though is in today's society people aren't always sure what's polite and they err on the side of caution until they just can't hold it in anymore.

I had a similar starting weight as you, and I didn't start to get comments from people until I had lost close to 80 pounds.  And then it was only a few.  I started getting more comments when I had lost 100.

Weight is such a loaded issue in our society.  What if you're sick?  What if you're not trying to lose weight?  What if they say something and make you feel like they thought you were ugly before?  I'm sure they've noticed, but maybe they're too polite to say anything.  That's actually my preference.. I hate people talking about my weight.  I've learned to deal with comments because I have to, but I'm much happier if people say nothing.  I assume they notice - it would be impossible for them not to.

I bleached my hair blonde a few weeks ago and that generates WAY more comments than my body does.  Hair is a much safer topic than weight!

True, weight is a touchy subject...but for me, I felt it just wasn't noticed....5-6 yrs ago I went from 275 to 225....very few people noticed.  When I had the wls  at 246, still no one noticed until I lost about 50 lbs.  Those who knew about it were watching, but those who didnt, I guess just didn't care enough to look at me that closely LOL.   I think the larger we are, the more it takes to be noticeable...  10 lbs off a 200 lb person is not noticed.  10 lbs off a 125 person is definitely noticed.

but you are losing, and that's all that matters!!  The compliments will come, don't worry!  congrats!!

I think people are generally afraid to say anything.

I'm down over 40 lbs, since the end of April.  I'm starting to get attention over it, especially if I hadn't seem someone over the summer.  Some of it kind of weird (for example - seeing someone really look you over head to toe).

I've had a few folks, after mentioning the weightless, ask if I'm ok.  So there's definitely those who worry about illness, and don't just think it's from dieting.

It is too funny that you posted this today. I was thinking the same thing today and was going to post the same subject. I was off work 6 weeks and went back to work almost 60 pounds lighter and no one said a word about my weigh loss even though my shirts are loose fitting and not skin tight any longer..... Crazy.

I notice that I get A LOT more comments and compliments when I'm wearing clothes that fit well.  If I wear something big and baggy, I don't hear anything.

I'm down over 70lbs since June and just this week I've had 2 people at work say something, and before that 1 person asked me if I was losing weight a couple weeks ago.  Nobody else has said a word.  I definitely think people have noticed, but it just depends on the person if they want to ask you.  I err on the side of caution myself in terms of people losing weight or being visibly pregnant.  I won't say anything unless they bring it up first or it becomes general knowledge.

I would say they are afraid to say anything .. 80 lbs in a few months, could be an illness you are battling.
