5 days out
Hey everyone! Hope you are all enjoying this lovely fall day.
I am 5 days post op (surgery was 9/18) and I've lost about 10 pounds. Does this seem about right or on the slow side? And ugh, when will this horrific gas pain GO AWAY??? Also, while not overtly hungry, whenever my hubby makes something it takes all my willpower not to steal a bite or two!
Any thoughts or tips would be very much appreciated!
Conrats! I can't wait to join you on the loser's bench November 6th. Keep reminding yourself you will be able to have real food soon, but for now you have to heal. As the vets say for the gas, "Walk Walk Walk, Sip Sip Sip". Keep us update on how you are doing.

I didn't have the hunger. Basically, I ate because I was supposed to.
The ten pounds seems right. I had it on a Monday and I was down 11 by Thursday but I think that was a little fast (it's slowed since then). My gas pains were pretty much gone by the Thursday...but it's different for everyone. Just keep walking. It will work itself out of your system.
I had surgery the Monday before last. At 5 days out I was down 9 pounds as well and was worried it was a little slow but today being 8 days out I am down 12. I think it all has to do with your body and how much you have to lose. As for the gas pain....I still have it as well but not as bad as it was. I just keep walking. Hope this helps!
10 pounds in 5 days is exceptional. Expect your weight loss to slow down. Even losing 3 pounds a week is very good.
I understand wanting to steal bites of food. No tips, other than it could hurt you to eat the wrong foods while your tummy is still healing. So be diligent for your own health and safety for now.
The recovery process and getting used to the new tummy is challenging. Hang in there. It does get better

That seems super fast.
Walking will help the gas pain. Walk as much as you can.
Leave the room when your husband is cooking/eating.

Take a deep breath. It's really unlikely that you'll continue to lose at that rate, which is exceptionally fast. Most people come home up in weight because of retaining excess fluid from surgery. Don't be surprised when you stall. It'll all pass and the weight will continue to drop.
On the pain, it's probably not gas pain any more, just general pain from surgery. It'll improve every day and then fade out.
Today I am 2 weeks post-op and I've lost 14 pounds so far. Walking will help the pain, but listen to your body when you need to rest. Remember you are still healing. I had a bad episode of people eating around me at a pot-luck at church (read my blog for more details, address below), and I wound up having to remove myself from the room and then having a crying fit. I think that right now, the best thing you can do is remove yourself from tempting situations whenever possible.
Best of luck to you!!!
Thanks everyone for the tips and well wishes! I have a recumbent stationary bike that I've been using and I think that is helping.
I'm honestly surprised I didn't retain more fluid because I had problems with that after each of my c-sections.
i guess one day at a time, one sip at a time. Nothing worth having is easy.
