3 days post op and unsure
I had my surgery Tuesday. I have had more pain than I anticipated. I'm going what the doc told me but it hurts to drink and I have eaten next to nothing. I know this isn't supposed to be easy, but I am so fearful I won't be able to eat food again. I just want a salad or a piece of grilled chicken. I lost 17 lbs on my 2 week pre op diet (247 down to 232). My pants are falling off of me, but I can't help but ask myself is feeling like this worth it? Will I ever feel like myself again? The ache and pain in my stomach is wretched, and I fear I will never be normal again. Is this really worth it? Has anyone else felt this way?
Are you taking your pain meds? If not, you should be! If you are, and they're not helping, you should ask your surgeon for something else/stronger.
As for drinking, have you tried different temperatures? Some people have better luck with warm or hot liquids. So it's worth some experimentation!

I'm sorry for your pain. Please make sure you get liquid pain meds from your doctor as well as omeprazol (the acid causes horrible pain). Also, drink protein drinks blended or mixed with water/ice, suck on sugar free popsicles, sip water with crystal light or other flavored drops. For savory: sip on protein enhanced chicken broth or hot tea. I found the got liquids were better for me than the cold. No salad or chicken-you could tear your sleeve/staples this early on.
Also, you shouldn't be hungry-you have acid that is mimicking hunger. Please call your doctor and get a good protein supplement, pain meds and antacid.
Take care and follow the post-op orders or you will end up with complications.
I had my surgery on Wens. The day after you so I'm right there with you. I have pain when I'm drinking also doc says it because i had a hernia and the stitches to correct that are sensitive. Im just reading all the success stories and counting on the fact that it will get better!
