Is this soup OK for full liquids post op?

I've been dying for some cream of mushroom soup but I don't really care for the cans...I found this recipe copycat of my favorite soup and wanted to make it. It seems like it has a lot of butter!  I was going to strain out the mushrooms and celery so really the butter content is what's got me hesitating. I'm 3 days post op BTW. Can I have this?

Duh I just realized I didn't paste the recipe lol

CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP
Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes Copycat Recipe

5 cups sliced mushrooms, 1/4 inch thick (about 1 pound)
1 cup celery, 1/2 inch thick (about 1 1/2 large ribs)
1/2 stick salted butter, plus 2 1/2 tablespoons, divided
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
4 1/2 tablespoons all purpose flour
3 1/4 cup swater
1 tablespoon beef base
1 tablespoon chicken base
2 cups whole milk
1 cup half and half
salt and pepper, to taste

In a large saucepan, combine mushrooms, celery, 1 stick butter and pepper. Saute over medium heat for 15 minutes or until vegetables have cooked down and released their juices. Remove from heat and set aside. Do not discard liquid.

While mushrooms and celery are cooking, in a large saucepan, melt remaining 5 tablespoons butter over medium heat and stir in flour. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add water in 1/2 cup increments, stirring between each addition to be sure no lumps form. Add beef base and chicken base and bring mixture to a slow boil. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes. Soup will thicken. Stir in milk, half and half and reserved mushrooms and celery, with their cooking liquid. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

My fear would be all of that milk.  Many find themselves lactose intolerant for a bit.  1/2 stick butter to 5 cups of mushrooms = not a bad ratio of butter, and it's not nearly as bad as all of the fake butters out there.

I would recommend blending the soup instead of fising out all the goodies, though.  Enjoy all of it.

Luckily I've not had any issues with milk, and for that I am very thankful :) I started the soup so that even if I couldn't have it my husband can. It smells like heaven!

At 3days post op I was still on clear liquids..

depends on what your plan calls for..

just make sure this isn't some weird

head thing..craving it..gotta have it..

Could lead to obsessive thoughts/actions...dangerous territory..

i think you should ride this craving out

and wait maybe till the mid winter

to enjoy this soup...

I was only on clear liquids until the 2nd day post op, for the next 2 weeks I'm on full liquids. I wasn't so much craving this soup so much as I was looking for something more savory than shakes and cream of wheat and such. I was told I could have strained cream of ____ soups. But I'm not much of a fan of the canned versions.

I'm on full liquids as well and cream of mushroom soup is on my list to eat that the office gave me. In fact, I can have almost any soup as long as I strain it and it's low fat. I love the soups and hate my protein shakes now. I'm also enjoying some applesauce. Yummy!

This is some really good soup if you like Cream of Mushroom...I strained some and had a couple of ounces and I felt like I was in heaven! Applesauce is on my list as well, I've been mixing my protein powder into it and it's pretty good. I don't think I can stomach another protein shake for at least a few days, I'm burnt out on them so I've got unflavored powder I'm adding to anything and everything else lol.

How are you feeling?

You are such a life savor. I bought unflavored protein powder and I guess I just forgot. I add the powder to my applesauce for my lunch. I think this is really going to help because I continued to drink and eat (apple sauce and soup) but never felt satisfied. I added it to my 1/2 cup applesauce and I feel a difference already!

I was starting to feel a little confused and a little depressed about not knowing what to do. Even with months of education, I just lost all of it. Thank you !!!!
