My Back is Hurting
It could be many things - for me, this would have a 90% chance of being a kidney stone. I recommend asking your doctor.

Hi Ms. Shawna,
It may be the gall bladder, but I wanted to share my story as well. I had pain in my mid back that moved back and forth to my left side. I noticed it got worse when I moved too fast to get up sometimes and also when I had not had a bowel movement for a few days. I talked to my surgeon's office about it, and the PA actually suspected it as a nerve ending that was inflamed. She recommended I contact an orthopedist and possibly do physical therapy for it. The pain has subsided for now, so I have not pursued it. When it was hurting (off an on for about 8 weeks, sometimes more than others), I used a heat pack and that did nothing. Then I tried icing it, and that helped a lot along with an anti-inflammatory.
Hope you get some answers. Back pain sucks!
In my history with back issues, which are the reason I am on disability, I can answer to some of your problems. If the pain goes from side to side and moves around, it is nerve pain caused possibly from over exertion and maybe not enough warming up. Since I have an old compresson fracture of a lumbar vertebrae, I identify with that pain a lot.
Muscle relaxers will not touch nerve pain, you need something like Vicodin, Percocet or Tramadol. I have been on all and Percocet is the best pain reliever for me but I am highly addicted to it from being on it for 3 years straight so I now take Tramadol and flexeril. But, remember, Flexeril is a "muscle" relaxer and not a nerve pain remedy.
My history-educated opinion is that you have a pinched nerve, probably from exercising. Continue using heat to relax the muscles for 20 minutes at a time, and talk to your doctor for pain relief AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, to get a correct diagnosis.
