Last night I swallowed some liquid wrong and coughed several times to get it out, and was not on any pain meds at all because I was doing so well. At about 10:30 as I was getting ready for bed, I noticed a deep, stinging pain in my left abdomen, under my ribcage and I could barely sit up, the pain was so bad.  It feels like a torn muscle, and stings.  I have no other pain anywhere else and this is new. I went right back on the tylenol with codeine.

I have already alerted my nurse this morning and she thinks it may be constipation, but it seems too high for that.  She also asked if I had a fever, which I don't, but I wouldn't anyway since I'm on the tylenol again. I was injected with experel for the pain on the surgery day, and it only lasted 72 hours. So maybe this is normal, but the nurse just told me to try to poop and stay on the pain meds.

Did any of you experience a pain like this?  I'm afraid I've popped a staple or something.

I'd be going into the doctor's office for this, regardless of what that nurse said.  I wouldn't wait for it to get better or worse.

I'm going to see if the pain is the same after the tylenol wears off and then call her again and see if I can come in. It's Friday and I don't want to head into the weekend with this not resolved.

Well everybody, turns out the nurse was right. Once I passed some gas and went numero dos, the pain subsided. So I'm feeling much better now.
