What just happened??

Hi all,

I need some words of wisdom please. This morning I was having my Chike like I do every morning. Then all of a sudden my pouch really started hurting. My mouth started to water I really needed to vomit. Of course I'm in the middle of JC Penney. I breathed deep, got it to pass, continued shopping, but my pouch was still hurt, and not a hurt that I've really experienced in my 3 months since sleeve. My nausea kept coming in waves, but I could calm it down. Then about 3 hours after it all started, I couldn't calm it down again and I heaved and heaved and heaved. Occasionally "foamies" came out but for the most part, just dry heaved. Any ideas on what caused this.

Just a quick correction - we have a sleeve, not a pouch.  RNYers get the pouch.

That sounds very strange, do you normally have your shake while walking around?  Could that have been an issue?  I try to eat/drink when I'm more relaxed.  When I do try to drink in the middle of movement, my stomach can be unhappy if I don't give myself a moment.  I'd recommend calling your surgeon on Monday.

Thanks for correcting me.

Yeah, I usually have my morning shake on the go.

Some sleeves are fickle beasts. What is fine one day may be the antithesis of fine the next day. If it's a one-time thing, chalk it up to your sleeve having a bad morning.

Yes some sleeves are fickle.  I used to have all kinds of issues in the beginning. I had the foamies after eating cream of wheat during the pureed stage. Plain ole cream of wheat with a bit of milk.  I had such heartburn today because I made a low cal low carb crockpot recipe with very lean pork loin chops and sauerkraut.  I am so suffering acidic stomach even after taking my Nexium.  These little buggers are really fickle.

I have only felt that way a few times in my life and it was caused by food poisoning or catching the flu. I haven't experienced that feeling post-surgery.

I have 2 thoughts, neither based in anything that I "know" to be true...

Any chance it was a lactose thing?

My other thought, at times this happens to me. Not from drinks though that I can recall. I occassionally can take just 1 or 2 bites of something and feel a specific type of stomach pain as a result. If I continue to eat, I will get sick and vomit. Sometimes even if I don't eat anymore, I still get sick. This just happened last week off of less than 1/2 of a meatball. It has happened with 1 of 2 bites of scrambled eggs too, and I do not think it is associated with eating too fast or not chewing enough. Hence, my only real advice is try to identify whatever it was you felt right before you got sick. Eventually I learned to recognize this twinge of pain for what it was, and now avoid getting sick as much.

Good luck-
