Pain Meds After Surgery
Hi, I'm 3 days out.Had my surgery on Tuesday. I am still feeling pretty lousy. Not really in pain but very nauseous and unable to get much down. Can't take my pain med because its liquid tylenol with codeine and it makes me vomit. I am taking something every 8 hours for the nausea. Should I force myself to take the pain med even if 'm not in that much pain? Would it make me feel better
I'd suggest calling your surgeon's office and getting a prescription for something that doesn't make you vomit. The nausea is likely due to dehydration if you're not able to get much down - work hard on sipping, try different temperatures of liquids such as warm tea, hot broth, etc.

definitely call the surgeons office. Vomiting could be because of the stomach surgery, but anytime a patient is vomiting after taking a medication we tell them to stop it. Maybe they could try another medication or a patch. But it sounds like you really aren't hurting too much, so you may not need anything. But they will still want to know about your reaction to the meds. I am hoping to go without much pain meds as well. I hate the way they make me feel. I would not make a good drugie ;)
