One week post op update.
I had my surgery last Monday 11/17 and all went well. I failed the leak test on day two (no leaks) due to swelling so that set me back a day. I came home on day three and started feeling better each day. The recovery process has been great with the exception of a TERRIBLE constipation issue on Monday which I will spare you all the details of. If I could give any advice it would be to start taking something like MiraLAX when you get home. It mixes into any drink, it's tasteless, and could save you from this issue.
I had my one week post op appointment today and all went well. They moved me to full liquids which I will start tomorrow. I have not been hungry at all which is amazing to me. I am down 23 lbs since the start of the two week pre op diet so no complaints there! I can't remember the last time I lost 23 lbs period let alone in three weeks.
I also want to thank everyone on here that responds with advice and encouragement. You have all helped me a great deal leading up to this point. Now the fun begins! Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
I did miralax once a day until I was into regular foods, I think. Now I just take it if I miss my morning poop! I'm super regular and love it.
Congrats on your happy healing and great progress so far :)

Congratulations! Thank you for the advise on Miralax. My surgery is next week and my surgeon told me to take plenty of fiber before hand. She warned me about the constipation. I have a problem now, I can only imagine after surgery.
Happy Thanksgiving and may you continue to have a good recovery. Christine
That's great news, Kerry! You are one day ahead of me but have double the weight loss. I'm jealous! Also I'm starving! Hungry all the time. It really scares me because I'm afraid I won't stick to the plan. I got moved to full liquids today, too. I feel pretty good though not much pain other than an occasional stitch in my side. Thanks for the post and I hope everything continues to be terrific! Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey Bonnie. You are doing great. Half of that loss was with the pre op liquid diet which I couldn't stand. Instead of the 1200 cal in protein shakes I averaged 600 cal. The weight just dropped and I was clearly eating too many "last meals" right before to drop so much. I'm expecting the dreaded stall next. Hope you are feeling well and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Are you taking a PPI? Lots of times, hunger is really just acid. Taking prilosec or nexium makes it go away.

Yes, Gwen, I'm taking 20mg og Omeprazole a day. I asked the Dr. if I could take two a day today and she said no. Said I was hungry because I need to eat. Start full liquids tomorrow. Get to eat 2 oz. of sugar free pudding, oatmeal, cream of wheat, or Greek yogurt. 6 times a day. Hope it does the trick!! And I'm suppose to do 2 protein shakes. 64 oz of liquid.
We share a "surgeversary!" :). I had mine last Monday as well. I'm sorry you had so many complications. That sounds awful.
Ive had the same problem with constipation and am becoming close friends with milk of magnesia, which I'm convinced has some sort of fishy component that is VILE!
I think I'm down about 16 pounds since my two-week preop shake diet. 23 is great!
Congratulations! Awesome work! Thank you for sharing your experience for those of us staring down our surgery dates! I am glad to see that even with a little setback, things work out well! I think my doc's plan calls for stool softeners, so I better stock up! Best wishes to you as you continue your journey!
