I think you should follow YOUR goal. Neither my surgeon nor my PCP set any number goals for me. I did that. I based it on a variety of factors. Age. Height. Memory of where I used to feel good at in terms of weight. Bone density. Exercise levels. You can set your own goal weight based on your own personal factors and see how you feel. You can always adjust your goals. Ultimately, once you lose your excess weight your goal should be a lifetime of mindful eating. If you start with and stick to that,  the number on the scale will take care of itself. Like magic!

My surgeon wants his patients to get to a BMI under 30. Other than that, he does not give goal weights. For someone 5'4", to get to the normal range of the BMI chart, you need to be 145. but as Julia said, it is ultimately up to you.

I like this quote- Your goal weight should be something you can easily maintain while living the life you want to live. For me that means maintaining with a 22 BMI. I feel good physically and mentally and it is not hard for me to maintain this weight. I think you just need to focus on getting healthier and leaning new healthy habits and see where your body ends up.

First of all congrats on you weight loss.  This is a hard question.  I worked in the medical field for many years.  One thing I learned (also by being a patient) is that a specialist is just that a "specialist" in that one thing that he/she deals with every day.  You PCP is like a jack of all trades and needs to be versed in many different thing he/she is probably working off of a generalized chart for height and weight.  I know you trust your PCP and that is what makes it hard.  I personally would not worry about it until you get there.  See what weight feels healthiest to you.  Also, take into consideration that if you are exercising that muscle weighs more than fat. My surgeon has not even discussed ideal weight with me yet but I am only 3 weeks post-op.  I just estimated my goal to where I was before 3 kids and added about 10lbs for excess skin.  Maybe your PCP is taking the shin weight into account.  Just a thought.

Whatever you're comfortable with and able to maintain. I'm 5'4'' as well and my goal weight is 120-130 giving me enough room when weight loss starts to slow down.

I agree with Julia and the others. What matters is what your goal is, and what you are comfortable with. Keep up the good work.

You've made great progress!  Good for you!  At first, no one set a goal for me, not even me.  But, a few months after surgery, one Dr. set one, then my metabolic specialist set another (10 lbs. lower), and the surgeon agreed with that one. Then it was lowered again (another 5 lbs.), and long story short, I hit the lower goal, and am about 5 pounds below that, which is 20 below the first Dr's arbitrary goal.  I didn't believe it early on, but know now, that my body actually set the goal for me.  So, listen to your body, and set small goals along the way (it worked for me to do that).  Enjoy the process, and lots of good luck!

Go by whatever goal you set. You might be comfortable at your goal or your pcp goal, ultimately your body will let you know where it's comfortable at. After all you might have more muscle than fat when you get closer to your goal & the scale will show you heavy along with those bmi charts even though you're at a healthy weight. You can always get one of those tests that measures out your fat to muscle ratio to see where you're at once you get closer to your goal.

I think I will be ok at 135 pounds I have 4 children 18, 19, 20 and 23 and a grandson that all keep me busy and still live at home but I did this for me. It was so quick for the 50 pounds to come off not easy but quick, so another 30-35 pounds I think ill be comfortable .
