clear liquids for 10 days pre-op? Anyone else had this diet?

So my doc said to do a clear liquid diet for 10 days pre-op and only wants my calories to come from protein and was turned to the clear liquid protein drinks called Isopure.  I am on day 3 and feel horrible, dizzy, and nauseated. I'm consuming less than 400 calories this way. I an very mobile and work as a corrections officer and not sure how to make it through my days feeling this weak. Then coming home to deal with two toddlers. My surgery is scheduled for next Monday. The 12th. I seen other bariatric programs putting people in a lean atkins type diet and clear two days pre-op or the same with thicker protein style drinks with more calories but this is the first I have ever heard of ten days clear liquid.

I had to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks just not all clear liquids.  The first 3 or 4 days were horrible, but after that it got easier.  I had to drink 3 protein shakes a day and I was allowed broth and sf popsicles.  Hang in there, it will get better.  Just remember its for a good cause.

Good luck with surgery!

It's pretty common. And it's not designed to torture you, though it may feel like it. It's for your safety and well being. Believe me, later on you'll be glad.

It's only a week. You could stand on your head for a week if you needed to. Hang in there. There's a reason many people refer to this as detox.

The first 3-4 days are always the worst.  Hang in there!

Only clear liquid sounds really rough! I'm on day 5 of my pre-op, but I have shakes as well as 1-2 pieces of fruit and a cup of clear veggies. Can you have sugar-free jello and popsicles? Coffee? Broth? Those things all might help subdue those hunger pangs. Hang in there--we're going to rock this!

I started my pre-op today.  I am allowed 1 meal of 5 oz lean meat with 2 cups vegetables for a meal, the other is protein drinks and/or bars.  Day 1 is hard, but I'm sure by Day 3 even worst.  I  am so ready for this and pray f my mind stays in check.

I started a 3 week liquid diet on January 1. All I can have is Ensure protien drinks (5x/day), clear broth, water, and sugar free Jello.
I am on day 5 today and struggling like crazy. I don't know how I'm supposed to make it through another 15 days of this. I also feel weak and just generally not well.

I joined a FB group and its interesting to see how different the pre-op diets are for everyone. Some people just have clear fluids the day before, others get non starchy veggies with meat, and then there is me on the opposite side of the scale with 3 weeks of liquid ONLY.

Goodluck to you - sending you positive vibes!

My preop diet was only six days.  Fivrst five days 2 replacement meals with protein shakes and one regular meal. I had freedom of choice what meal to replace and the day before surgery I was on clear liquids.  The doctor even gave me green light to have a normal Christmas day meal but I didn't take advantage.
