A hiccup and disappointment

Well it was bound to happen despite all of my "checking the boxes" and dotting i's and crossing t's. I've come across my first major hiccup and just feel bummed.  Today was my last appointment with my NUT.  I'm down a total of 35 lbs (yay!) and she actually said to me that she knew I'd be successful because of how well I've done in all this supervised weight loss portion (3 months).  Today was to be THE day when we submitted for insurance approval.  At least that's what I've been counting on and was told originally.

However, things just don't go as planned.

The insurance guru at the office called me and said that I still needed to meet with the surgeon one last time before sending to insurance - apparently the surgeon's requirement, not the insurance company.  It's their protocol.  Please note though that THIS requirement was NEVER on any of the checklists, etc. that were given to me.  It isn't part of my insurance process, so I'm just not sure why it's holding up that piece, but alas it is.  I shared my extreme disappointment because of all the work I did ahead of time to be sure that 1/5 would be THE date.  (The disappointment also includes checking with her about a month ago and confirming that I was ONLY missing the 1 final month of NUT notes.)  I realize everyone is human and I won't throw a fit, but I can't help but be disappointed.

I asked her when I could get that appointment on the books.  As you might guess, he's booked solid and now I can't get in until 1/29.  She's doing all she can (has me on the cancellation list - I'll get the appointment if/when someone cancels) to help expedite my visit, but that's another 3 weeks of waiting.  I think I was just so excited to move on to the pre-op liquid and to see more progress that I feel let down.  And what do I do when I get really disappointed?  I eat.

Well I'm happy to report that is my past and this time, I didn't eat.  I don't even feel a desire to comfort myself with food.  Although I wanted to be crushed (and I am to a degree), I just thought well it's another 3 weeks of losing weight, getting more off pre-op and that will help me post-op, right? Please say I'm right?!

Everything else is going smoothly and I guess this is a hiccup for me to experience.  Let's hope the three weeks goes by quickly and maybe I'll even have another 5-7 lbs off.  Wouldn't THAT be nice?!

In the long run, an extra three weeks won't make a huge difference, even though it feels like it now!  Keep rocking your lifestyle changes and use the extra time to research more :)

Thanks Gwen!!! That's what I keep telling myself too. It doesn't change from what I'm doing now and it's an opportunity to keep getting stronger. 1/29 feels like forever right now...but I'll survive and hopefully be smaller for it!!

I was initially scheduled for surgery in February but had to delay to March due to an ulcer that was found in my pre-op endoscopy.  That totally sucked so I really feel your pain!  But now?  Now it's just a blip that rarely even crosses my mind :D

I know that the three weeks may seem like an eternity, but in the big picture, it's just a bump in the road.  I know you'll do great, and you'll get through this last obstacle.

Keep up the good work!

Congrats on doing so well in your supervised diet! I often felt like that time could not go by quick enough (six months). I just wanted to say, "Hang in there!" because Gwen is right... the next 3 weeks will fly by and you'll be on your way soon enough! Then, you'll be a couple of years out from the start of the process and wonder where all the time went, like I am!!

Great job!!
