Now I am freaking out !!!!!

I was just reading the previous post about the anxiety and Ghrelin connection......well, I am supposed to be sleeved 2/17/15,but I am freaking out about the Ghrelin removal....My dad had Parkinsons,so did my grandma and now my uncle....so maybe the sleeve is a terrible choice for me,because I need my dopamine !!! Should I request RNY instead?!!! I never really considered a bypass, the sleeve made so much more sense....I am devastated.....

The Ghrelin issue is usually overblown. There is Ghrelin produced in other places, not just your stomach. And other hormones are related to hunger.

As Grim said, Ghrelin is produced in other parts of the body.  My doctor told me after 6 months, I could expect hunger to return as ghrelin production would return.  I think he said it was also produced in the intestines.

Ghrelin is produced throughout your GI tract. Regardless, a decrease in ghrelin will not decrease the amount of dopamine in your nervous system! I think people are confusing the presence of dopamine outside of the GI tract. Ghrelin is unique to the GI tract, Dopamine is not. Dopamine is found throughout your body and it will not decrease because of the surgery, only the interaction between ghrelin and dopamine will change.

Ghrelin is produced in other places too, such as the lungs.
