Deductible?

My wife and I both had VSG surgery in Mexico. Anyone know if it is deductible?

And the travel? We had to fly from Atlanta to San Diego.

It all depends on your adjusted gross income.  You can deduct medical expenses over a certain amount if you itemize (no short form).  However, I doubt that you'd be able to deduct the airfare.  I'd definitely ask a tax specialist on that one.   Here's a link to an IRS information sheet on it:

Yeah, it's everything over 10% of your adjusted gross income. So, if your AGI was $100,00, you'd be able to deduct all out-of-pocket medical over $10,000 (10% of $100,000).

Just wondering if being out of the country mattered...

As long as you have all the documentation (receipts, itemized bill, etc.) I don't think they give a hoot where you had the surgery.  

I deducted my surgery, but not the travel.
