I should be joining your ranks in a little over a month

Hello Sleevers,

Thought I would introduce my self since I should be joining you all in just over a month. I have a tentative surgery date for 4-1-15. April Fools Day! Hopefully I won't be the fool! I will be 50 in May and have been overweight off and on since I was in 3rd grade. I have lost significant amounts of weight in the past (100 lbs., 50 lbs., 40 lbs, and 20 lbs. - countless times). I always gain it back. Six years ago I lost the 100 lbs. on Medifast and started gaining even while I was transitioning to a normal healthy diet (not up to my recommended calorie goal). I have PCOS and my metabolism is in the tank. I've come to realize that I need to keep my calories below 1200 and exercise most days of the week to maintain a healthy weight.

I am really hoping that the sleeve will be the tool that helps me keep the weight off. I am excited to get going on this journey. I have already lost just over 15 lbs. following a lower carb, higher protein diet and kicking up the exercise. Still need insurance approval - it was just submitted this week so should be soon. Not too many hoops to jump through - final NUT visit, final surgeon visit, maybe cardiology clearance appt. and History and Physical from PCP.

Looking forward to getting to know you all better!

First I would like to say, welcome!!  You are already on your way to a healthful and happy future. It's great to meet you! It's nice to meet other people who are going through similar things as I.

VSG has been the best decision I have ever made. I had the same problem. I have struggled with weight since high school. I would lose then gain, lose then gain. I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago and last fall was diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea, that requires the use of a CPAP machine.

Keep us up to date with how you are doing and of course if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. The people on the forum are super helpful. Congratulations on your upcoming procedure!

You're so lucky your process moves so quickly!! I first decided and told my doctor I wanted surgery in July- and after months of waiting, 6 weeks of classes and more waiting, I finally just had surgery Monday.

Good luck to you!! I love this board!! It is definitely a good support system, even if you don't post very often. :)

Hi Paula,

I'm 63 and had my sleeve done on Ground Hog Day. Just like April Fools' day, should be pretty easy to remember.

I'm in the phase right now that isn't so pleasant -- post-op. My sleeve is healing and very cranky about what I put in it. I'm very slowly transitioning from pureed to soft foods. Be prepared for indigestion, fatigue, and even some boredom. I'm told that later on this post-op adjustment will seem like it has gone by like lightning, but I'm not quite there yet. And you may have a much quicker and better recovery than I'm having. However, I will say that even with the present physical and emotional upsets, I'm still glad I did this. It will literally save my life.

Talk to you soon.

Hi Paula,

Welcome! Great job in losing weight before the surgery.  I know that it isn't absolutely necessary to do that but is a nice head start!  I look forward to seeing your progress.
