Hi Friends,

Soooo...I remember hearing something about not submerging myself after surgery but I can't remember for how long?!  Does anyone remember?  I am actually one month post op today and have been invited to go kayaking tomorrow (memorial day) and then thought "UH OH...what if I CAPSIZE?!"  So my question is...if I do fall in, will that be safe or should I just be a bystander?

Thanks and have a great weekend!!!

My doctor told me to wait until my incisions were all healed.  I'm also one month out today and my drain incision is almost scab free.  I would go swimming if I wanted to.

Have fun!

Kayaking involves a lot of torso twisting, right?  I'd be more worried about that, personally!

my surgeon prefers 6 weeks even though the insition looks healed there are microscopic pores that germs can get into

My surgeon told me to buy clear bandages that completely cover and protect the incisions while in the water. I never needed them, so I don't know the brand, but he said they're available at drug stores. The only thing to remember is to remove them after you're done being in the water so the healing can resume.

I was allowed to go swimming after my two month check-up.
