Weight gain over the holiday weekend

I was pretty sure it was going to happen, but I gained some weight while on vacation.  We were gone for six days.  I was really good for the first four days, but the last two were tough.  We were just sitting around on Monday and I don't do well when there is food just lying around.  Yesterday we were traveling.  We left the hotel at 9 am, sat at the airport, flew, and then drove for 6 hours.  We got home at 10:30 that night.  My kids were constantly hungry, and another really hard thing for me is not eating when other people are eating.  My plan is to eat 3 times a day and that is it.  Yesterday I ate 5.  So, this morning the scale told me the truth and I have to get back into my groove.  Of course, the teachers' lounge is full of cakes because it is the end of the year.  I will be strong.  Thanks for listening and helping me be accountable to myself.

You can do this, Sarah!  All the pounds on the scale may not be "real" weight either.  Traveling, sitting in a car for hours...all of that ensures you're going to retain water.  I'm betting after a couple days of being back to your routine that the scale settles back down too

I've come to the realization that I will go off track on my diet when I'm surrounded by temptations.  But as long as I recognize it as a special cir****tance, and make a commitment to get back on track, it will be ok.

I'm in maintenance, and I eat 4 meals per day, allowing myself some higher calorie meals regularly.  When the weight starts to increase I cut back to basics, eliminate the snacks and higher calorie meals for a few days or a week, and that seems to work for me.  (Check back in a year to see if its still working )

Best wishes,

Carol

I guess I'm in maintenance too, according to my doc, although I would like to lose 5 more lbs...12 more as of today!  That makes me feel better.  I can't avoid all temptations and I'm not successful when I try to resist.  My snacking yesterday was mostly good stuff... almonds, chicken, cheese....with a few bad things thrown in, but in small quantities.  Hopefully it is mostly water.

Just so you know, I get on a plane and fly for any length of time, I gain about 3-5 pounds - whether I eat or not. It's a water retention thing. My mom was the same way. I never wear shorts on a flight because my ankles look like an elephant's by the time I deplane! It takes me about 3 to 5 days to lose the water and then I'm back to normal. Maybe that is the major weight increase you're seeing.

As previously said, you can do it. Just get back on your plan and stick to it.

Thanks, I hope that is it.
