Surgery Tomorrow

My surgery is tomorrow at 10 am and oddly it feels as though I am mourning a death and rejoicing a new life at the same time.  Did any of you suffer from dreams that had you questioning surgery before the big day?

I definitely had some anxiety dreams - I kept dreaming that I was eating with other people and started eating their food, then (in my dream) realized I was still on liquid diet and freaked out thinking my stomach was going to bust open.  I kept having crazy dreams until I stopped the pain meds postop.  I have my surgery 11 days ago and am still on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster.  My Dr said this is normal and will pass, but it is a struggle!

Texan Sleever, 11 days wow, you must be in the thick of it.  I can only imagine and will know myself all too soon, the emotional onslaught this must have been for you since surgery.  What do you think has been your greatest hurdle/struggle so far?  Any hindsight advice to offer, I will surely take it.  I hope you are having a great day today, you certainly made mine better by taking the time to reply...

Probably the hardest thing is being stuck on liquids while everyone around me eats food - I have been avoiding family kitchen/meal time.  They are all very supportive, but they still need to eat.  I am just now going from clear liquid to full liquids because I had bad heartburn and some air stuck around my diaphragm that took longer to dissipate.  Water just went down the easiest. Today I am struggling with being hungry, but having ZERO appetite for anything that is available to me.  I have been sticking mainly to premier protein shakes and isopure zero protein bottles - easiest way to get my protein requirements in.

Also, the soreness is hard.  Walking feels good, but my sides and back ache and I can't get comfortable enough to sleep since I stopped the pain meds.  Every day there are ups and downs.  One day at a time!

the only surgery-related dream I had was one in which I gave in, and ate a big piece of cake with lots of creamy icing - it was so good.  Then the remorse set in, and I woke up, and was so happy that it was only a dream!

I think the drive for food is pretty primal to affect my dreams that way.

I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and weight loss Journey.  I think you'll be so happy you did it.
