I think it was maybe 6 months post op? Sorry to say it, but there's just not a lot of room in there and your priority has to be protein. I can't have big salads, just a few bites.

I started adding bites of salad at 4 months with my Nutritionist's OK. Like, you, I was really missing having fresh veggies. :-)

I'll be 3 years out in a few weeks. When I have my first salad, there will be a major announcement.

Grim...I am curious since you haven't had salad yet at 3 years out. Is this because salad is harder to digest for those who have had an RNY as opposed to a VSG?

Not at all. It's because salad is yucky and lacking in nutrition. Did you know that the stuff in salad grows on the ground? Do you know what my food does to stuff lying around on the ground?

Salad is the food your food eats.

I tolerated things like lettuce/tomatoes, etc. after several weeks.  But, once I got my protein in there was only space for an itsy bitsy bite. I almost always skipped it because I'm too lazy to organize such a small amount of food

At about 6-7 months, I started occasionally replacing one of four protein meals with a salad plus an oz of protein.  This is particularly nice now that there are veges available from my own garden.  But, the rule is that I have to have the rest of my daily protein organized otherwise I don't get that salad or vege.

I'm not triggered by this small amount of carbs, but, there is no doubt that it doesn't provide the satiety that a meal of 3 oz of dense protein would.

I'm 4 months post-op and I've only been able to take a bite or two of raw greens here and there in the last few weeks. There is no way I would attempt a salad at this point, not only because I don't have the ROOM but because my stomach is not ready to digest that much raw vegetable matter. I tolerate sauteed/wilted greens much better, and eat them nearly every day (we're talking a generous tablespoon or two as a portion).
