Starting to feel complacent

I'm abut 5.5 months post op. I've lost about 60 pounds in the last year. I feel so much better and I've dropped 5 dress sizes and I look so much better. I'm not done, I need to lose about 75 pounds to meet my goal of 160. I'm having trouble keeping on track some days. Part of me wants to be happy with my progress and relax my diet and exercise routine. I feel complacent some days and I need support to move forward. Any ideas?

The best advice I can give you is to stick to your plan!  That being said...I know how you feel!  I slacked off big time on my exercise after the first few months, but I did stick pretty strictly to my diet.  By that I mean that I stuck to my protein and water goals daily...no exceptions!  I may not always have made the best food choices, but I still hit those two goals everyday...and still do.  You will have complacent times, just don't get bogged down in them!  You've done awesome so far...keep it up!!

Very encouraging I am 59 and two weeks post op. I don't hav emuch energy and it is very difficult drinking the shakes. Waht other sources of protein do you use? I don't have any appetite right now.

I certainly can relate to your complacence.  This Weight loss surgery stuff is not an easy fix.  It takes constant diligence.  The thing that keeps me on track is knowing people who had the surgery and then totally defeated themselves and gained the weight back.

Its important to keep in mind that WLS is not a cure.  Its just a tool.  The obesity is a disease and we are managing it, but its not cured by the surgery.  We have to keep to our plans or we will gain weight.

(I'm giving myself a pep talk here, in case you couldn't tell! )

Keep the faith.  And stand up to the urge to eat as a way of standing up for yourself.  You deserve the health and energy that will come from following the program.

best wishes,

Carol

Thanks Carol. I've only not hit my goals on water and protein 2 times I think. I hit those goals daily, no matter what else I do or don't do. One of my worries is falling back I to old habits and ruining my work.

I can certainly relate. I just celebrated 9 months post-op and solidly in Onederland but I have to admit, I'm tired.  Proud of my success so far, but really ready to be finished with the weight loss phase, you know?

I had to vary my diet a bit, adding other types of protein and adding in green vegetables when I could and that helped.

Keep up the good work and enjoy your success!

I think I'm ready for the maintenance phase to begin. I'm not there yet, another year at my current weight loss of 5 to 6 pounds a month, that's been average these last 2 or 3 months. I'm in it for the long hall, I didn't have the sleeve to stop at better than before and not reach my potential. I'll have to vary my diet some and change up my protein to add shakes back in, that really worked well for me. Thank you for the advice and encouragement. Good luck with your continued weight loss!

rhudson,

I know how you feel. I'm pretty close too and it seems so hard to stay on track. I'm worried about winter and not exercising enough. Keep up to great work.

Robin
