How much did you all lose on average by 7 weeks out?

i am just a little bit over 7 weeks out. I have only lost 29 pounds. Does this seem normal to you all. It seems slow to me. I know everybody loses differently, but how much did you all owe on average after 7 weeks? My nutritionist said it may be slow because of all of my previous dieting.

That averages to just over 4 lbs lost per week. That's very good, don't you think? I was never able to lose 4 lbs per week before surgery. Were you? I think you're doing great. Give yourself a break, it's still very early in the process for you.

29 pounds is very good. You really can't compare to others. If anything, it is better to consider what percentage of your EWL did you lose? That is at least a tiny bit more consistent.

I will be 7 weeks out on Monday and I have lost about 25lbs. Even though I have a long way to go I am trying not to focus on specific numbers and to focus on the fact that I am losing and getting healthier. Good luck to you with your journey!!

That is very fast. My doc says count on 1 to 2 pounds a week average. Stalls most certainly will happen, count in it!

Stick to the program. Our heads the part the surgeon simply can't fix and the biggest barrier to sucess all of us will ever face.

Male 55, Initial weight 388#, and 6'1" / surgery weight 360#/Current Weight is 296#

I was 33 pounds at week 8, but I started out weighing 372, so I had a lot more to lose. My surgeon said that losing 100 pounds the first six months is totally unhealthy and that I was doing well. He actually said he was proud of me for losing that amount. Don't bear yourself up. That's 29 pounds that you no longer have to carry around!! Be proud of what you've accomplished!!

I'm just 4 days out and I actually weighed more the day I came home than I did before the surgery! My Doc says that was all the IV fluids they pumped into me. 29 lbs is pretty good if you ask me...I heard 22 the first month was average and then it slows down a bit. Everybody is different. I will be very happy is I lose that by week 7. I was also told that the folks with the BMI's over 50 lose more faster than those who are not as heavy to start with. Men lose more I think than women? I went on Atkins diet in 1997 and lost 65 lbs in 6 months...I'm hoping to beat that. I also heard that sugar can stall you, some say even a little can do that but I'm not sure if that is true. Also they told me to make sure you maintain "fullness"so your body doesn't switch metabolism to "starvation mode" which can stall your progress.

Starvation mode is nonsense. Obese people have a very long way to go before worrying about starvation.

Whenever someone starts talking about starvation mode, run the other way.

No, I agree with the science. Your metabolism slows. It involves the body responding to reduced calorie intake by reducing calorie expenditure in an attempt to maintain energy balance and prevent starvation, it was useful thousands of years ago when we were Cavemen. This is a natural physiological response, and isn't controversial. It is well accepted by scientists, and the technical term for it is adaptive thermogenesis

It involves the body responding to reduced calorie intake by reducing calorie expenditure in an attempt to maintain energy balance and prevent starvation.

Pretty much all weight loss diets cause a reduction in calorie intake. Some by controlling calories directly others by reducing appetite so that people eat fewer calories automatically. When this happens, calories leaving the fat tissue become greater than the calories entering it . So we lose fat. However, the brain doesn't see this in the same way as you do. In many cases, it sees this as the beginning of starvation.

So the body fights it and does everything it can to make you stop losing.

I highly doubt that Surgeons and the nutritionists just made it up. Perhaps you should read the science yourself. Nonsense is denying science.
