Done in by bite-sized blueberry muffins

Hi all,

I hope you all had a joyful Thanksgiving.  I cooked and had family and friends join us, and it was wonderful.

I did a great job preparing for a healthy meal.  I made mashed cauliflower to keep me from the mashed potatoes.  I had broccoli slaw for a sweet, pungent crunchy taste.  I made my yummy and moderately healthy sweet potato casserole with pecans. With a salad and turkey I was all set. 

But my diet was done in by bite-sized blueberry muffins.  My friend baked them, thinking the bite-sized would be better for my small tummy. Unfortunately, I can resist a normal muffin, but the bite-sized muffins slipped right below my resistance.  I told myself "Its just a little muffin.  It won't be that bad."  And then I ate 12! They were soooo good.   Sigh.

The remainder went in the trash this morning.  Done in by bite-sized blueberry muffins!

Oh boy!  12 minis - don't be so hard on yourself.  Muffins, regardless of the size are yummy.  And I understand the "it's just a little" argument friends and family like to push on us.  I'm Italian, meals always used to include tons of a pasta dish first, before overloading on bread with the meal.  

Now my mother and brother are diabetic, so the menu has changed a bit, but she did turkey, green beans, salad and mashed cauliflower as well.  They're close enough to fool my brother who doesn't eat right even though he's on the kidney transplant list.  Geez.  Then they both had a huge piece of sugar free apple pie - I didn't bother bringing up the fact that there's still carbs in the crust and the natural sugars from the apples.

Today's a new day and will be better!

Carol, it was just one day. No harm, no foul. You're back on track today and that is what truly matters. Life happens. How you choose to react to it is all up to you. I think you've done a great job. You've identified the trigger and removed it. 

I chose to have apple pie last night after having my homemade no sugar pumpkin pie that I planned for. I'm up a bit on the scale today, but it was a choice and I have no regrets. I'm back on track this morning and all is well. Like I said earlier this week, Thanksgiving is a day not a long weekend. I'm back to it, too!

I have no doubt that this will be only a tiny bump in your road.

Has anyone, ever, confessed that they ate way too much turkey, or steak, or something like that? It's always, always, the crappy carbs that bite us on the ass.

Bite-sized blueberry muffins sound delicious. I hit the candied yams and potatoes a little too hard and the protein not as hard as I had planned. I managed to stay under 1k calories and got in my 90g of protein over the course of the day, though.

I'm back on the wagon today. We can do this! :)

Kudos to you for coming clean and recognizing that it was just one day. What's important is not letting it become a habit, and beating yourself up just isn't useful. I had a couple Cheerios binges recently that I felt horrible about after. It made me realize my tendencies for binge eating may get easier with time, but they'll always be there, requiring constant vigilance (a la Mad Eye Moody for anyone who gets the reference). It also made me realize I'm nervous as hell about going home for Xmas this year and seeing my and my husband's families for the first time in 2 years, and I basically tried to drown my feelings in cereal.

Is it bad that after reading this post all I could think was "I need that bite-sized blueberry muffin recipe!"

Hi Carol-

I can totaly relate to this.  I did great on Thanksgiving but had a pupmkin pie festival the next day.  All done with that now.  The shining star is I have started exercising again so moving forward!  We are not perfect.  Always the reminder of how the carbs still sing their siren song to us!
