One Month Down

I'm finally one month post-op, although it feels easily like three. There have been many changes, and many tiny NSVs. I'm down 21lbs, although I thought I would have lost more. I guess I can chalk that up to the no good, very bad, terrible 3 week stall which lasted 12 days and started just before my third week. I now hate the taste of coca-cola and its smell; before surgery I could have easily had 6 cans a day.

As far as pain after surgery, the worst part was pain due to scar tissue during week 3, which forced me to take an extra week off of work (I know, bummer). Other than soreness the night post-op and a little bleeding from one incision, recovery was good.

NSVs:

-My seatbelt fits better and I have more slack.

-The jeans I was wearing pre-op that would only fit with spanx are now falling off my posterior.

-I can wear things in my closet that didn't fit this time last year.

-I can now sit in any chair in my entire office building comfortably and won't have to roll my chair across the building when we change seating (this one is my favorite).

I couldn't have gotten to this point without you guys, and I'm happy to be a part of this board. Next month i'm shooting to lose 24lbs to place myself at exactly 300lbs, Wish me luck.

Gotta love the NSVs! Great work! Hang in there! Increase activity and it will help break the stall.

21 pounds with a long stall is great!  That's not bad at all, really.  Congrats :)

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Congratulations! You are doing awesome. Don't be discouraged 21lbs is amazing! Some people lose way less first month. Keep us updated on your progress.

Congratulations on losing 21 pounds the first month.  That's what I lost my first month post surgery, and I lost of total of 225 pounds in 18 months.  So don't scoff at 21 pounds!  Its a great start.

I think many people get into thinking they need to lose weight really fast, but this is a marathon, not a sprint.  Does it really matter if you get to goal in 6 months or 9 months or 12 months?  If you weigh less every month and are healthier and able to be more active, does it really matter how fast you lose the weight?

So try to take the focus off how fast you are losing.  I drove myself crazy during the weight loss process because I wanted to lose the weight so fast, and looking back, it was pretty amazing how well I did.

best wishes,

Carol

Thank you so much for all of the encouragements and I'm sorry for my late response (Christmas shopping waits for no one). Several of you are correct. I do need to stop seeing it as a sprint, but I plan to visit a friend and attend a convention in March and I want to look the best I can. Thank you guys so much for sharing the weight you lost in the first month. That seriously makes me feel better because i've been thinking obessively that I have to lose as much as I can now because it will soon slack off. I won't be so hard on myself for Dec 11th-Jan 11th :)
