Getting Discouraged

I was sleeved on 3/16 and in exactly one month I lost 30 lbs.  However since my 1 month surgiversary, 17 days ago, I haven't lost a single pound (with the exception of the 1-2 lbs I've been gaining and losing.)

I know stalls are a part of the process, and I can tell that my body has changed in the last 17 days, but I'm starting to feel discouraged.  Does anyone have any tips on breaking a stall?

Stalls are really common around 2-4 weeks out, so this is nothing unusual.  Just stick to your eating plan, drink lots of water, and know that the scale will budge eventually. Your body is adjusting to this massive change in how it functions.  I know it's frustrating though!

My best advice is to take baseline body measurements (I.e. bust, waist, hips, upper arm, thigh, calf). Update them monthly, or when the scale gets stuck. When you are following your plan, your body is reconfiguring in some way, even though it may not show on the scale. Work your program, and you'll push through the stalls.

I decided to only weigh once a month (unless I have a doctor appointment). My surgeons office said it was a good idea.  That way I won't drive myself crazy.  I try on clothes to see if the next size down is getting closer instead (bought some clothes in the next 2 sizes from ThredUp).

Try not to get discouraged.  30 pounds in a month is phenomenal.  Its not surprising that your body is readjusting and that you are stalled. Averaging the 30 pounds over two months would be 15 pounds a month, and even that is excellent weight loss.

When we start a diet, we lose a lot of water weight.  Then our bodies readjust and balance the water again.  So its safe to guess that the 30 pounds lost the first month weren't all fat loss.  You are still losing fat now but its not showing on the scale because the water is readjusting.

Try to keep the big picture.  You are doing so well.  I never had a month where I lost anything near 30 pounds, and I still lost 225 pounds in about 18 months.

best wishes,

Carol

There are no tips for breaking a stall. Just stay on plan and wait it out.

Stalls break when they break. There is not a thing you can do. Follow your plan, and you'll do great.

I never lost 30 pounds in a single month.

I had the same problem and posted the same thing at about the same time. I even came to a stall at 3 months and didn't lose weight for almost 4 weeks. From what everyone shared, it's completely normal and will happen again. I know it's frustrating but the scale will budge, I promise you. When I went to my follow up appointment this month my doctor told me that I wasn't eating enough - not getting in enough protein or water. I explained how I'm not hungry and after a few bites of my food I'm full. He said I have to push myself. So since then I am trying very hard to get more water and protein in...and what do you know, the scale moved ;) We get so fixated on a number that we seem to forget about the other things, like our clothes falling off of us or medical conditions getting better. I have to try and remember that myself when this happens. Hope this helps!!

I do track my weight every day. Maybe I shouldn't but it has helped me see when I lose weight best.  Every month I basically stay the same for three weeks then I drop about six to ten pounds the week before my period and a few during.
