A note about fats.....

We often read here to not be afraid of fat content...... and I am one of them.

Culinary speaking, fat is flavor and texture.

But always remember, fat is also calorie dense.

For those that don't count calories or the surgeons plan doesn't have you counting calories.... good luck, because that's what your banking on...luck.

For some, the difference between WL and maintenance or maintenance and regain can be that blob of mayo, that slice of cheese, that salad dressing.

On the same subject, here is another advantage to smaller sleeve capacity. If you eat less you can have a more varied diet.

Like it or not, it's a calorie game.

Calories matter. I think that any program that tells patients NOT to count calories is unconscionable.

I agree.  Its so easy to add calories with fats.  Even with a small servings, and avoiding grazing, its possible to defeat the diet.

During WL I was very careful about fat content. I got enough healthy fats to maintain body function, etc... but I stayed away from all full fat diary until maintenance. Now, with losing the regain I am back to being very careful with fats - especially salad dressings. That's where so many hidden calories lie. I believe salad dressing to be one of the biggest weight loss busters of all!

Think about this: 2 TBS Cardini's original Ceasar dressing =160 calories! Lots of calories in very little volume!

Not counting dressings and those "hidden" calorie items is a practice of folly!

I think this goes for any "topping." I could put 800 calories worth of butter on pasta or popcorn before surgery. God knows how much in melted cheese. Add-ons and toppings will kill a diet plan before you can blink.

And, it makes us delude ourselves into thinking we still "are barely eating anything."

I always add water to mine to thin it down and make it go farther and add fewer calories. I don't find it changes the flavor much and I like that it is a thinner texture.
