Mourning food

I am three weeks out and am missing eating...I find it very frustrating because I have to cook for my family but cannot eat any of what I'm cooking for them...and I do cook healthy...I've asked myself several times what I was thinking having this surgery......any advice?

Its probably hard to see at only 3 weeks out, but wait 6 months to a year, as you get thinner and healthier.  You'll be so glad that you made the commitment and chose health. 

I decided to avoid cooking for the family when I was most vulnerable during the pre-surgery diet and post surgery for a few weeks.  Fortunatlely, my kids are grown and they can cook for themselves.  But when I started, I wouldn't eat out with people - even though I could find something on the menu that matched the diet.  It was just too painful to see others eating the things I couldn't have.  It was just too painful to eat salad while everyone else was eating pizza. 

It won't be long before you can eat healthy meals with your family.  Hang in there. It'll be worth it.

Lol I'm 15 months out. Food is for nourishmental so they say. I still like to eat. I'm use to eating 4 bits and saving the rest for the next 2 or 3 meals. Some people around you may not get use to it. I'm down more than 100 lbs. It's ok if they don't like it. Soon....when people call you skinny and they will...you will smile and say thank you with the biggest smile.

I understand how you are feeling. When I got back to cooking for my family, I made sure to cook something in the meal that I could eat. My husband loved this potato, cheese, and meat thing that I make on the skillet. I just put aside the meat and cheese for me then mix the rest for him. That way, I don't feel left out or that I am missing anything. At 3 weeks out, your diet isn't back to "normal" yet so this is likely going to be the most difficult part. Soon, when you are on regular diet, it will be easier to include yourself in the meal plan. hang in there!

What stage of your diet are you in? During my recovery, I cooked but I cooked stuff I could also eat and enjoy while I was allowed to eat soft solids. You can make things like big batches or ricotta bake, tuna salad, casseroles with ground beef, etc.

I am beginning the soft foods stage...everything seems new to me.  Do you know if there's a cookbook for people who

have had weight loss surgery?

Did you ever have a weight stall in the early phase of your recovery.  I've been at the same weight for five days...maybe I should stop obsessing with the scale!

Oh definitely! It was really difficult but I really tried hard to stick with only weighing myself once a week. That helped me freak out a little less. :)
