Unintentional Liquid Diet

So, I am just over 3 months out and in "regular food" phase.  In my last conversation with my nut, we both decided that I should aim to get most of my protein from food and become less reliant on shakes.  I thought I was doing pretty good with this, only using 1 Atkins Lift drink per day (20g protein).  But, most mornings I try to get in 24 oz of water before I leave for work which doesn't leave lots of time for me to eat, so I grab a Powerful Yogurt smoothie (20g protein) to drink on the way to work.  It's been working for me, but it dawned on me that the majority of my protein intake is in liquid form.

I will see my nut again in 2 weeks for my 4 month check-up and I will ask her if this is okay, but I wanted to get some feedback from the OH community in the meantime.  On a normal day I also get another 34g of protein from food.

The yogurt smoothie might as well be a protein shake. I'm not saying you should, or shouldn't, but there is no difference.

You are still fairly fresh from surgery, but your goal is really to work toward dense protein. That is what will keep you full and satiated the longest. A yogurt smoothie isn't going to do that.

I guess that's what I was thinking too, that the yogurt smoothie is basically a shake.  I should probably just get up a little earlier and make time to have some eggs at home.  Thanks for the reply!

My calories tended to do better on the days I was using shakes. I have no issue with a shake a day, and during weight loss even 2 a day was fine. I still use shakes this far out, but get the bulk of my protein from food. I do struggle getting enough protein without shakes though due to not being a big meat eater.

I still grab a Premier Protein drink for breakfast most mornings and I'm six years out.  As long as you don't find yourself getting hungry too soon, it makes no difference whether you're eating or drinking your protein.  If you ARE getting hungry, then you need to get in some dense protein.
