LOW Blood pressure after losing?

Have any of you had issues with low BP after surgery and mass weight loss?

I lost a lot my first 3 months. 83 lbs. I feel great and it's awesome and all that. Especially now that I've plateaud lol. At least I'm at 199 now!

Any how, the last 3 ish weeks I noticed I was dizzy when standing after sitting or laying down, or if I bent over to help kids dress and toilet etc. I was dizzy in hot showers, easy to get nauseous, craving steak, getting head aches and disoriented in amusement park rides with my kids (unusual) and all around just wobbly. I also noticed my vision was blurry and tough to focus .

My ears are fine (first thing I had  checked)
I went for an annual follow-up at my pulnonologist and when they took my BP it was 90/60. I then thought hmm. Maybe that is why I'm always dizzy .

I made an appointment the next day with my regular doctor and it was Again low . They did a quick blood work for thyroid and a CBC . They all came back fine ( thyroid was low normal which I think is regular for me, and I wasn't anemic which we thought may be part of it)

So she sent me to a cardiologist. I saw them today, and again it was low. I mentioned that the last 2 days even looking upward is making me dizzy. So they did an EKG and are sending me for an echo on Friday. In the mean time he is putting me on a small amount of meds to raise my bp a little bit  to see if it takes the edge off.

He thinks it may be my body trying to get used to my new weight. I don't think that is it since I've lost this much before, quickly. And I've been smaller than this. I asked if any of my other meds needed to be changed based on the new weight and he said no.

So has anyone else experienced low blood pressure/ symptoms after weight loss? I'm 3.5 months out now and on a regular diet. This all seemed to start when I was off all food restrictions. Some have asked if I'm getting enough calories, or too much, if I'm drinking enough, if im getting enough carbs... Everything . And I've tried adding more carbs, less carbs, more cals less Cals, boat loads of water... Nothing seems to make a difference. I'm calling the surgeon once the echo is done tonsee if they need to see me sooner because of this (I go back 10/1)

I'm going to call my ENT and have him clean my ears if there is any chance it is ear related and being missed, but I'm out of ideas

I'd hate to be on bp meds now because I've lost weight. So I've turned to here.

 Any experiences will be helpful!

This is very common. It's called orthostatic hypotension. Any nursing student should know how to check for it. Take your  laying down, then right after sitting up, then right after standing. If it drops each time, it's orthostatic hypotension. And it's a lot cheaper than a battery of cardiac tests.

It goes away after your weight has been stable for a while. In the mwantime, ask your doc to ditch all BP meds, use extra salt and electrolytes, drink twice what you are now, and stand up very slowly.

Yeah this was what they dx'd it as.  Great info! I'll check all of the pressures that way.  I was also upset about the pill thinking that wasn't a great idea.  He asked if I was drinking electrolytes I said no, he asked if it was because of sugar I said yes but also said I've had the before. He didn't say to actualy take the g2 though.    I'm only entertaining the specialists because we hit our deductible already last January so this is all free at the moment . However since eme surgery was self pay, anything the surgeon does I have to pay for. That was why I went the regular doctor route.  I'll call him and ask if not taking the meds is ok and trying the drinking stuff first.

Thanks  again. I'm still confused as to why this came on so quickly.

G2 still has a lot of calories. Powerade Zero is good for electrolytes, and zero calories, no sugar.

Yep, I figured that out when I got to the store.  I could hVe sworn it was sugar free. Hah.  I was only in it about 3 years ago during some ivf treatments when I was getting heart failure from the hormone injections.

I grabbed a few of the sugar free Powerade( I dislike Powerade. But hope it is just because normal powerade is carbonated.) A few propels,  some vitamin water zeros and  the sugar free mio electrolyte drops.   Hopefully I can drink like a crazy lady and see improvement in  a week or so.

Thanks for being so helpful! It will be wonderful to tame this a bit until I stabilize to avoid pills

I can't stand Powerade either, so I count the G2 in my daily carb intake. I am not diabetic either. I'm also doing the vitamin waters - some of those are nasty to me as well. I hope you find that balance soon.

Took a sip of the propel today and I'm convinced it is still carbonated. It has a spice to it. Ans after openinng it ans having some I can see some bubbles.  It's not much but enough to be blech . Lol.  I guess it is vitamin water xxx and MiO for me!

Adding that nasty stuff! I fully hate it but if it will help...

Thanks for the top shelf info, Grim! Might not have been my thread but it came up the day I resolved to ask. (Yay procrastination!)

My surgeon told me that the severe reduction in calories plays a huge part in the dizziness and I agree with that. I've had to cut my blood pressure meds in half as well. Drink some low calorie Gatorade to put some sodium and potassium back into your body. Both my docs say to stay away from table salt. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks  :)

My original dizzy after surgery were calorie and sugar related.  Once I stopped my diabetic meds it all went away.  That dizziness was pure sugar crash  and felt different than this.

I'm going to go grab some g2.
