Losing hair

I'm getting crazed.....my doctor assures me that this will only last a few weeks longer, but it doesn't seem to be slowing down........I've upped my biotin, increased my protein and cut down the times I brush my hair in a day, yet I'm still shedding at what I feel like is an alarming rate.

Any suggestions????? Someone said something about adding zinc?????

Google telogen effluvium. There is nothing you can do about it!  Stop trying to. No vitamin, protein level, zinc, etc. will prevent it from happening.  Over-supplementing can cause problems too.  If you take too much Biotin you will grow hair....on your upper lip!  The hair loss is caused by the anesthesia they use in surgery and the trauma to the body.  It usually starts at around three months out and lasts to around the ninth month.  Don't panic, your hair will grow back.

I lost about half my hair and I was the only one *****ally noticed it.  I got a new hairdo ( a short, sassy cut)to get through it.

I'm new to the group, had my sleeve surgery 1/25/17, glad to hear hair lids will return and when to expect it,  since I have thin hair it is a concern

Look up teflogen effluvium (or something like that). You can't prevent it so don't bother wasting your money trying. Talk to your hair stylist and figure out a good haircut to ride it out.

I know most people here say its because of anesthesia but 10 years ago when I lost 125 lbs going to the Quick Weightloss Center, I lost a lot of hair. It happened about 6 or 7 months out. My hair is fine and thin to begin with so I was worried. It didn't last too terribly long.

Yeah, it makes me wonder too. Any time in the past that I did quick weight loss with a VLCD, I'd always lose some hair.

Since I had a band to sleeve revision, I lose 1-2 lbs a week steadily, and my calories are averaging about 1000-1200 a day. I'm at month 5, and my hair isn't falling out, it feels thicker and healthier due to all the vitamins though. I'm keeping a watch on it though, and will update if I do.

What Rocky said. I have curly hair (don't let the picture fool you--that was taken right after I left the stylist), and I cut it in a bob after surgery because I had a lot of little hair horns sticking up all over from hair loss and regrowth. The bob helped camouflage it, as did going back to wearing my hair curly. I was shedding like a cat for a while.

And you never see cats stressing out about losing some fur! We can learn a lot from cats.

No vitamins or protein matter when it comes to telogen effluvium.  It just has to cycle through.  Rest assured that new hair is pushing those old follicles out, and your vitamins will benefit that new growth.  Get a makeover and introduce some cute layers to blend in that new growth so you don't look like a chia pet.
