Fitness trackers - need help

Hey gang.  I joined the losers bench on Monday of this week.  I'm feeling great.  My Jawbone died on Sunday and they refuse to replace it and it was only 7 months old.  I bought this band at the end of Feb as my 2nd one that replaced my first one died. This is the third failure I've had from them in 13 months.  I refuse to spend another dollar with jawbone after this experience.

What is everyone else wearing?  I'm thinking Fitbit because I know others that have them and being able to see their steps helps motivate me.  However, I like the water proof feature from Garmin as I plan to start swimming a lot when allowed.  Does anyone else use a Garmin tracker or Fitbit?  If so, I would love to get your feedback on build quality, app experience,  etc.

Your input is appreciated.

My husband and I have been using a Fitbit One almost from the beginning, we've really liked it.

I am on my second Vivofit.  I love that I can wear it in the shower and in the pool.  I also love that it does not need to be recharged.

When my first Vivofit stopped working after eighteen months, they gave me 1/2 off on the second.  My Vivofit 2 does not register in the water or on a bike or exercise machine.  The Vivofit 3 says it registers in the water and other activities so I may just upgrade to that or I may take the plunge to the Vivoactive HR.

Vivofit has a Facebook page where you can connect with other wearers and motivate each other.

My college bff has a Vivofit and loves it :)

To the OP - the Vivofit is more of a step counter only device.  It's awesome, but it isn't as fully featured as the Vivoactive.

If you're going to get into any sort of GPS/tracked activity (like the swimming you mention), I highly recommend that you just go for the Garmin Vivoactive HR.  It will do everything for you.  It's waterproof, tracks swimming (it's a Tri watch - swimming, biking, running, golf).  Has on board GPS so doesn't need to piggyback off your phone.  Tracks steps as well.  Very customizable for activity fields.  Vibrates for alarms, smart phone notifications as desired, intervals for running.  The HR does continual heart rate monitoring.  It's a wonderful device.  It'll even buzz you if you've been sitting too long (which is cool in theory, but can be annoying in concept and I think you can turn it off in the HR model.  I've got the original one that doesn't have HR.)  You can also change the straps, which is a nice feature.

Seriously, cannot recommend the Garmin Vivoactive enough.  I've had mine since initial release in Marcy 2015 and it's the best thing ever.

Tech geek here! I've used several, here's my input:

Original pebble: my first wearable, can't go wrong with i****erproof, built-in pedometer, sturdy as hell, lasts a week on a charge, plus it handles phone interaction like replying to texts, shuffling music, mapmyrun, that sort of thing. A bit more of a hassle to install apps to the watch, there's a Pebble app that manages things like your music player, text-reply app, that sort of thing, but they're preparing to release a complete new series of products so I imagine they've cleaned it up. I wore mine all the time, even while swimming. Super cheap (under $100 now).

Android wear: another solid choice; I used a Moto 360 and LG G watch 1st gen. These are color screen, touchscreen, does voice commands, and have pedometer built in as well. You can link lots of apps to it, including C25K and Strava and whatnot. No****erproof, but that's probably the only downside other than the one-day battery life. Great choice if you want to have other phone interaction on the side.

Samsung Fit 2: Got this for free with my new cell phone, and I actually really like it. The built-in GPS does a great job managing cycling and jogging, though the stair-climb counter seems to be off by about a factor of 3. The heart rate monitor is much more accurate than the one on my Moto 360, though. Smaller screen, not nearly as much app support, but it's really comfortable and unobtrusive to wear, very sturdy, and the Samsung app you'll need to connect it to your phone is surprisingly not obnoxious. I definitely recommend it.

I have the Garmin Vivofit and LOVE it.  It is waterproof up to 164 feet, which is way more than I will ever get.  I wear it all the time, love that you don't have to charge it so I don't have to take it off all the time.  It run on 2 batteries which have a one year life to them and are only about $1 to replace.  It has been wonderful, I wear it while doing aqua fit and no problems.  I also got 12 different colored bands from Amazon to exchange so I have colors for basically any outfit I wear.  And the price for the Vivofit is way less than the Fitbits.

I'm an Apple geek and say the new Apple Watch 2.  It has GPS and is water resistant, too.  But there are less expensive options available from other brands.  Good luck and keep it up!

Now, I would totally go with an Apple Watch series 2 if I could, but they use nickel in their stuff so the model I'd have to buy to ensure that it was nickel free is too pricey :(  Sad times.
