Hello, I have been reading posts here for awhile and finally decided to post. I had sleeve surgery on 07/26/16 and I don't feel my weight-loss is where it should be and I am very discouraged. I have been hearing/reading about the K e t o diet and was wondering if anyone here has tried it, if it works, and how would I get started with it. Thanks in advance for any info. Have a great day!!!

Welcome!  How much weight have you lost?  What are you eating each day?

My diet is fairly paleo - which is a really sleeve friendly way of eating.  Keto is similar - it's high fat, moderate protein.

You'll lose weight on whatever way of eating you stick to, as long as your caloric intake is appropriate.  However, some ways of eating are a lot easier to maintain due to satiety than others.

Thank  you for your response!!! I lost 40 pounds pre-on and 44 post. I try to stick to high protein, low carb, some days are better than others, by I have made a lot of positive changes. I still struggle with head hunger and am working with my surgeon to see a therapist that will help me with this because my regular therapist just wants to give me meds and send me on my way.

I have been watching YouTube videos and K e t o seems to keep you full longer and the sleeve surgery patients seem to be soon really well on it.

Aw, I think your loss is pretty great!

It seems like Keto would be worth trying for you.  Just be sure to track everything you put in your mouth with something like MyFitnessPal so you can make sure you're not eating too many calories and that you're getting enough protein in.

per my nutritionist I should eat 1000 to 1100 per day? Does that sound right? I use my fitness pal and was looking over my last entries, I really need to cut back on snacking  even though the are healthy, still too many.

Most of the vets here would suggest keeping your calories closer to 800/day, which is what I try to do as well.  Nutritionists don't always give the best advice to WLS patients, sadly.  But snacking is definitely a slippery slope!  My plan is three meals a day, no snacks, and sometimes that's REALLY hard.

I post pretty much every day to the daily meal post in the VSG forum - so you can check there.

But here's what I've had the last few days:

Today

  1. protein shake
  2. short ribs
  3. chicken cordon bleu bake

Yesterday

  1. protein shake
  2. ground beef bulgogi, 1 oz cheese
  3. korean pork and cabbage quesadilla innards (about 1 cup of the filling)

The day before

  1. protein shake
  2. skirt steak, salad
  3. mongolian meatballs

The day before that (weird day since I was traveling)

  1. protein bar
  2. leftover chipotle bowl, Quest protein cookie (not as much chipotle bowl leftover as I'd thought)
  3. egg salad

And the day before that (also a weird day, since I was on vacation)

  1. protein bar
  2. frittata
  3. 2 small chicken thighs, ear of corn, tomato
  4. scoop of ice cream

I'm 4.5 years post-op.
