Has anyone taken this drug and if so did it help? I was put on this med yesterday and was hoping it will help with the burning in my stomach. I know it's to treat ulcers. I'm not sure if I have one, but the burning is pretty bad to the point I don't what to eat.

I am on Carfate right now to treat an ulcer.  It works for me.  It basically just coats the esophagus and stomach so the ulcer has time to heal.  Are you on a PPI like Nexium or Prilocec too?  If you are, make sure that you take them at least 30 minutes apart.  Carafate will not work if you take it with any kind of antacid.

Thank you for your reply: ) yes I take a PPI, and make sure it's an hour apart from taking the Carafate. How long do we have to take this medicine? Are the ulcers recurring? Sorry for all the question. Just a little worried.

Some people get multiple ulcers.  This is my first.  I'm over 6 years out from RNY.  My doctor has me on it for 8 weeks to give it time to heal.

I took carafate for a short while when my surgeon was trying to rule out a post VSG ulcer and to help with possible inflammation of the stomach lining. I found it a pain in the butt to take because I had to take the carafate 2 hours before or after my PPI. Since I did not have an ulcer in the end, the carafate didn't do too much for me. (Turns out I had major acid build up, but no reflux.) I know for people with true ulcerations it works really well.

It really helps with ulcers. But you have to space it out with PPIs, vitamins, and food. It can get really, rwally hard to work the timing out.
