Tell me about Genepro...

Is it really flavorless? I'm in the puree stage and I'm doing fantastic getting some new meals in me (eggs, canned chicken/fish, white fish, cheese, etc). But I'm needing to drink a premier protein shake AND 1/2 of an unjury shake daily to get in my protein. I've not been a fan of the shakes since the moment I woke up from surgery, but let's face it it's the only way to get 30g at a shot! I'd love to cut out the unjury shake and just keep one meal the premier. But I can't seem to do that and get enough food in me yet. I'm eating about 1.5 - 2oz per meal total right now.

So original question - is it really as great as they claim? And if so do you also mix it into full recipes? I have been looking at Eggface's blog and drooling over some ideas but I figured i'd need to add in some protein powder to some!

The short answer is no it's not as good as the claim.  We need a protein that is easily absorbed (whey protein isolate is the best) and not some "magic'" formula with questionable science behind it. It is impossible to get 30 grams of protein in that small amount.   Here is the link to old posts on the subject.

There is no such thing as "flavorless" protein powder.  Unflavored means not vanilla, chocolate, etc.  Whey protein always has a sour milk background flavor.  Some are worse than others.  Unjury is the best that I have found.  They also have a chicken soup flavor that helps a lot if you are sick of sweet protein drinks.  I like the Atkins Lift lemonade shakes.  20 grams of whey isolate protein in a clear liquid.  I add a little raspberry lemonade Mio to help the flavor.

Thank you, and noted. I do have unjury unflavored protein powder. I don't mind it or taste it in soup as long as I can blend it in well enough with my Ninja. But, that doesn't work well for "on the go" meals (ie: work). I was hoping to find something that I could sprinkle into my normal foods to boost them that didn't make me taste that same powder all the time.

It's a marketing scam.

Anything that sounds too good to be true generally is.

But there are lots of other great protein powders you can use, like Unjury and Isopure.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

Hello Grim,

Have you heard of or tried any of the protein powders from a site called Bariatric eating .com? The protein powder is called Inspire?

I haven't heard much about them the last few years. But before tgat, there were constant complaints here about their service, issues with getting yhe wrong items, or none at all. I wouldn't go near them myself.

There are literally hundreds of really high quality protein powders out there. Stick with a respected name and a respected store.

Nobody knows what it is, but we know their claims are impossible.  Body builders laugh about it.

Genepro sells to weight loss surgery patients because they are not sophisticated enough to question their ridiculous claims.

I use Genepro because it disturbs the flavor/texture of what I'm adding it to the least of all the unflavored powders I've tried.  I'm very senstive to texture changes, which is where the Unjury and Syntrax unflavored trip me up.

I've looked at the science and the study they quote to prove that Genepro has the absorption they claim.  The science isn't really all that crazy IMHO.  I'm going to send it to my ex SIL who's got a PhD in chemistry to see what she thinks.  The medical study has several flaws in the way it was set up IMHO.  However, it does show that it's at least as good as the other leading whey based protein powders.  Whether we're really getting the equivalent absorption of 30g in 1/2 the amount can easily be debated, but all the evidence I've looked at says it's at least as good as the other stuff.

Since I won't use the other stuff, it's irrelevant to me whether I'm truly getting the equivalent absorption of 30g protein or not.  It's extra protein I wouldn't get if I didn't use it.  I've seen some people use it and only count it as 15g, which to me is an acceptable solution if you just can't believe the claims but like the way the stuff dissolves.
