Protein Snacks

I'm looking for suggestions of high protein snacks, that are portable. I don't want to do protein bars because of my past sugar addiction-afraid this might awaken it again. I want something to carry in my purse when I have the "I'm starving" moment and my fridge is not right in front of me. Thanks!!!

Beef jerky is a great one. I love the Jack Link's brand (teriyaki). It's high in sodium -- but that can be a good thing if you have low blood pressure, like lots of us. Nuts are ok, but I use sparingly since they're high in calories. Also try moon cheese.

I make my own beef jerky - so that's great. I also take a small cooler in my car most all the time so cheese works. Wawa sells cheese sticks too, so I go there in a pinch.

I have found beef jerky a little harder on my sleeve, but have loved turkey jerky as a purse snack. I order snack-sized packs on Amazon that are just the right amount, too.

Interesting! The only store bought beef jerky I've ever done is the Jack Links stuff, and I've never had a problem with it. I think the homemade stuff is better, though.

And this post reminded me to pick up an eye round roast on the way home so I can make jerky next week since my supply is out!

I have never found a protein bar tasty enough to awaken a sugar addiction. They are just not that good tasting.

I also carry a small lunch cooler wherever I go. I buy Costco's individual packages of jerky, cut up cheese, slices of deli ham, hard boil eggs, handful of almonds and tuna. I never leave home without it.

I agree with the jerky fans - although I have to watch how often I have it, thanks to the sodium I will retain fluid if I'm not careful.

I'll often also have a foil pouch of tuna or salmon with me - shelf stable and as long as I also have a plastic fork, an easy protein source on the go.

I make my own jerky as well and also like the tuna and salmon pouches. Also you can buy or make homemade cheese crisps (similar to a cheez it) using a variety of cheeses.

Jerky, Epic Bars (chicken), Vermont Meat sticks, Nuts (but I haven't eaten those yet). I found roasted Edamame that is pretty good too. It's higher in carbs than the other options though, so I only eat a half serving (6g of carbs).
