Three year follow up

I had my three year follow up today and it went super well. The surgeon was most impressed that I'm still losing weight at 3 years out, apparently this is not normal. I've lost 20 pounds in the last year - certainly not as much as I would have liked, and not as much as I lost in the first year, but the less weight you have to lose the slower it goes. And there was that pesky cir****tance of dad dying and having my eating disorder overtake my life for a while.

The surgeon is super proud of me, really impressed with all that I've done and how successful I've been, and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy. He's glad I'm pursuing plastic surgery and happy with the surgeon I've chosen for that - they're friends.

He ordered a bunch of lab work, but I'm going to put it off a few months in order to do it in conjunction with my pre-op blood work. Unlike my PCP, he was happy to order the tests I wanted. Mainly ferritin, PTH, and copper.

We also talked about my acid issues and he's not super worried, especially when I told him about the concern of the fructose in the Calcium I had switched to and then stopped once I realized. (I have fructose malabsorption.) He recommended that I take an H2 blocker instead of a PPI as needed and to follow up if I have more issues.

I really like my surgeon. :D

Good for you! Has your acid issue resolved with switching out the calcium? I'm coming up on four years out and I'm losing weight again. I'd just kind of been whatevering and maintaining around 183-185, but that still puts me overweight, so I decided to buckle down and start tracking again. This morning I'm at 179.6. I've also started weight lifting with a trainer this week. My main goal is to get my body fat lower, so we'll see how it goes. You go to the gym, correct? What do you do there?

It seems better? I'm still in the wait and see steps - I was super sick on Thursday and that sort of threw everything out of whack.

Congrats on getting back to losing :)

At the moment, my exercise consists of pilates, yoga, and tai chi classes, running, and home yoga. I was lifting for a while as well, but then life got out of hand. I don't think I'll be able to get back to it until after I recover from plastics toward the end of this year. When I was lifting, I was following the New Rules of Lifting plan since it's most in line with what I've learned from studying personal training.

Currently I'm running three days a week, fitness classes once a week, and yoga almost every day.
