Favorite Protein Meal Replacement Shakes

What are your favorite meal replacement shakes. My nutritionist in my WLS program is pushing these HMR shakes on me. I have been doing some research and there is just SO much out there. I feel that they have quite a bit of sugar in them. I am wondering what other brands out there everyone likes. I am not a huge chocolate shake fan! Bonus points for something organic, maybe even dairy free! I am looking for something that is a little more than just a "protein shake".

I never used prepared shakes during my liquid and soft phases, I just didn't like the way they tasted. Now I keep a few Premier Protein shakes in the fridge in case I have to run out quickly and need something fast.

As for protein powders, I used Isopure Zero Carb unflavored whey protein, added my own flavorings, and made them with either skim milk or almond milk.

If you want completely non-dairy, you can get soy, hemp, or egg protein powders as well. I've never tried them, but they would meet your "dairy free" requirement if mixed with almond, soy, cashew milk, etc.

There are a billion brands and flavors. Look for 100 percent whey protein isolate. It is the most easily absorbed and utilized, and is lactose free.

Look for no added sugars or sugar alcohols. And stay away from Genepro and Humapro. They are scams.

But a protein shake is what you want? Meal replacement shakes tend to be high in carbs and calories.

I like Optimum Nutrition products - they've got an organic line. Vega makes various vegan protein options - hemp and pea powders. Then there's egg protein powder.

There are lots of options out there. Nashua Nutrition sells sample packets of the various powders. Experiment and see what works for you.

Yes, Ideally something that can replace a meal instead of just a protein supplement. It needs to have more nutritional value than just protein powder if that makes sense. I too love Optimum nutrition brand and Quest brand for protein, but apparently they are not ideal as far as total meal replacement for nutrition. I am trying to find something that is both a good quality protein and meal replacement. I will probably end up going to buy some samples at GMC/Vitamin Shoppe but since there are so many, I wanted to get some ideas first before I get too overwhelmed .

Personally, I'm a Premier Protein fan and have been for years. It's the only one out there that doesn't make me gag or have a nasty chalky aftertaste...The chocolate is my fave, but if you're not a chocoholic, give the strawberries and cream a try. I like that one as well. Good luck finding your needle in the haystack...the options are overwhelming and limitless but you'll find what you like if you do a few taste tests.

I like designer whey (90 calories with 18g protein 3 carbs 2 fiber) Body Fortress (200 calories 42g protein and 6 carbs 2 fiber) and atkins (160 calories 15 g protein 2 carbs 1 fiber) and premier protein (160 calories 30 gram protein 5 carbs 3 fiber) I drink RTU and buy a lot of them really cheap at big lots (the body fortress is only 4 bucks for a 4 pack!) My only complaint was I had shake thickening happen with premier protein and their customer service acted like I was lying to them and replaced a few of my bad shakes as a good will gesture but implied they wouldn't do it again
