Hey y'all. Thanks for the support first of all!!

I had my VSG on Monday and came home from the hospital yesterday. My doctor said he's not concerned with me making my protein goals the first few days but I just have to stay hydrated.

J literally have slept 95% of the time it feels like. Did y'all sleep a lot too? I've only taken pain medicine one time as I have horrible nausea and that doesn't help it.

Thansk agaij for your help. I'll check back when I wake up again.

You'll be tired for a while. Start planning daily naps for the next few weeks, at least. This was major surgery!

Drink, drink, drink. Not drinking enough will make you more tired, and more nauseated.

I recommend asking your surgeon for something for the nausea. It's totally normal to sleep a lot, you've just had major surgery and are recovering! Try to drink as much as you can - that can also help with the nausea. If you're not taking a PPI such as prilosec or Nexium, ask your doc about those as well since nausea can also be a result of acid.

Sounds about right! You'll be sleepy. You're severely calorie deficit from what your body is used to, so you'll feel worn down. My surgeon group was the same, said not to focus on the protein right away but to stay hydrated... not sure your groups plan, but you'll heal up and work your way into liquids/purees/softs and start to focus on protein AND hydration :)

Glad to hear everything went well! I hope the nausea subsides. That's no fun at all.

I slept for a day or two when I came home but I always got up and walked when I was awake.

Your Dr. is right - just sip tha****er as much as you can.

Congratulations - you are now on the loser's bench!

Glad everything went well for you! My doctor was much more concerned that I stay hydrated as well. I did my best to get my 60g of protein and with a few days of returning home I was doing well. Yes, I slept a lot but the more water I drank the better I felt.

Good luck with everything! You will do great!

For some reason doctors never explain this, and it drives me nuts! Your body heals the quickest during sleep. A few things happen in sleep: growth hormone secretion rises, and the body more quickly is able to repair things since, well, you aren't moving about. Protein synthesis (used to repair tissues) is higher during sleep than wakefulness, so sleep away. :)

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I am about 11 days post op now and still am sleeping longer (going to be earlier) than I did before. I slept a good part of my first 2 days. I think extra rest is just part of the package deal. You will get your energy back.
