3 years out and getting back on track

I had my surgery in Feb 2014 and lost around 165lbs in total. Things have been sort of slipping the past year or so and I've gained about 25lbs that I'm committed to losing again. I'm around 195lbs right now and am going to go back to high protein/low carb and stay under 1200 calories. Does that sound about right to lose around 2lbs per week? (I've read other posts with people who know how to do the math to calculate it.)

I had a lot of success with MFP but now all my buddies have stopped using it. I'd love to get anyone added so I can keep motivated to use it. Please feel free to add me as Saravmf

Cheers

I am going to add you. 25 lb pound gain is not that terrible, I am sure you will be successful getting it off. Wish you the best!

The weight that we gain at about three years out is referred to as bounce-back and is difficult to lose. It is the body's way of recovering from its perception of having been starved after surgery.

For me, the only way to lose that weight was by counting calories.

The math is fairly simple. Multiply your goal weight by 10 and then subtract 500 calories per day to lose a pound a week. For you that is 1700 per day to maintain 170 and 700 per day to lose two pounds a week.

1200 calories a day should result in losing one pound a week.

A great site to use is iifym.com which has calculators to determine your macros. I use that site to adjust My Fitness Pal goals for calories, fat, fiber, and protein.

I love to see how people deal with loss after regain, so I can "file" it away for future reference. It seems like a lot of the successful ones eat as much dense protein as possible and try to stay under 800 calories. Also follow White Doves great suggestions!

I am right there with you. I had my surgery 05/01/14 so I'm quickly approaching the 3 year mark. I broke my ankle last year and was bedridden for a month and on crutches for another month. Add bad eating and habits to that and I'm up 25 pounds from my lowest weight.

All I've done for the past 2 weeks is eat clean and stay under 1,000 calories a day and I've lost 7 pounds. I can't tell you how good it feels to see the scale go down again.

I wish you luck in your fight to lose the regain. I'm fighting to lose the regain plus more!
