Clothes while losing

I know this is an odd question, but with 6wks till surgery the strangest questions pop into my head randomly. What did you do about clothing as you lost? Seems like it would be expensive to keep up with.

Thrift stores, clearance sales, hand-me-downs from family and friends. I don't pay more than $15 for anything except shoes. Ebay is, of course, a good option. I use Swap.com, an online thrift store (only one thrift/consignment store in my little town and the selection is bleh). Poshmark.com and Thredup.com are a couple of other options for used clothing online.

Some of my favorite things have been hand-me-downs--wait...I guess, technically they're hand-me-ups since I'm older lol--from my baby sister! Tops and jeggings, leggings. My other sister got me a bagful of clothes for $20 from someone she knows who lost weight. I've been very lucky!!

As I lost I sold my nice clothes to a local plus size consignment store then I took that money and bought things at discount places like Ross and Burkes Outlet. It worked well, I am also the queen of clearance so I got some nicer things in the clearance section of Maceys for a really good price. I have also went to Walmart for some things and got the best fitting pair of jeans I have ever worn for $7.50. I have gone from a 26/28 to an 8/10.

It's great to be able to find things wherever I want to shop at but I still have a hard time sometimes wrapping my mind around it. Like I feel like at any moment a salesperson will tell me I don't belong in the "normal" size section still.

I use thrift stores a lot, especially Goodwill. We have a really nice one that gets most of their donations from one of the larger cities two hours away. The clothes are usually very nice, in style with loads of different sizes. I've done a lot of buying and donating back to them over the past 15 months!!!!

And yes, clearance racks are the best! I got a pair of really nice jean leggings for $5 on a clearance rack!!

Salvation Army thrift stores have really good prices.

I don't have any close support groups, but I have heard of some weight loss groups holding clothing swaps.

I wore a lot of the active wear from Walmart. That got me through spring/summer year. It is cheap, cheaper than most thrift stores, good quality and promotes an active lifestyle.

I can't really wear used clothes the idea skeeves me out. Plus I was still plus sized the whole first year of my weight loss, not like there are a lot of used trendy plus sized clothes at thift stores. Plus size didn't really exist in vintage soo..

It is expensive and the most expensive things that you have to replace you can't get used. Bras, and under garments. The way I was raised and the way i feel about fashion those are things you just can't skimp on, your foundation.

I tried selling old clothes but it was such a hassel it is not even worth it. Fast Fashion has basically made used clothes worthless. The time it takes you to get them together to sell and ship is worth more than how you will profit. I just took all my stuff to goodwill even though I felt guilt about it. Knowing it was still going to go to waste. I did sell my outwear and shoes/boots. I had a lot of very nice and expensive wide calf boots and over the knee boots.

Learn from my mistakes. When you are dropping fast...

Buy one bra at a time. One normal bra, one sports bra.

Just buy 2 weeks of panties (I'm used to having about 60 pairs of panties it was hell to have so few)

Only buy clothes you plan on wearing soon, like within a week max 2 if you are going to spend any money on them. Don't buy a size down, you might skip the next size. Buy what fits your right now. I know clearance and sales can be temping but just don't.

Don't buy a bunch of shoes if your feet are shrinking. I thought I was done losing weight in my feet last year, started buy shoes, then i lost 1/2 a size and now I am down 2 full sizes and from a W to almost a narrow.

I was able to wear most of my clothes until 3 months in- reality is what I owned was tight. Ten I went through sizes every six weeks. I shopped thrift stores, or wouldn't pay more than $20 for an item.

i wasn't expecting my shoes to not fit-- they were all stretched out. That was more costly to replace than the clothes. I will not wear other people's shoes- so I always bought them new.
