So I just started my mushy food stage. Woohoo! But I've been getting a lot of gas pain while eating. I'm taking small bites and taking the full half hour to eat but nothing seems to work. Anyone else have/had this problem? Does it go away? Can I do anything to provent it?

I don't know how much your are eating... or how big the bites are. You might be doing everything 'right', and by the book, but your stomach might just not be ready for it.

Of course, if it's serious pain, you should check with your Center to be sure they are comfortable with it, but I would venture to guess as you continue to heal, it will get better.

Your body might not be ready to advance. It might not like what you're eating. You might not be chewing enough.

What are you eating? How much are you eating?

I had applesauce for breakfast, mashed potatoes for lunch and pastini for dinner all 4 oz and the weird thing was I wasn't full which so many people have said they couldn't even eat the full 4 oz but I've had no problem other than the gas.

Well you're basically eating only carbs so it's not surprising that your body is reacting with gas. Switch the carbs to proteins - you need the protein to heal and the carbs will not help you reach your goal.

Are those things really on your list of approved foods? Try eggs, ricotta, cottage cheese, other soft cheeses, canned chicken or fish, etc. I'm 4+ months out and haven't eaten any of those foods.

I'm guessing you mean 4oz by volume? If so that's 1/2 cup which is a pretty large amount of food too for where you are.

I would move to things that have protein. That's one reason you're not feeling satisfaction. BUT, you also need to break the idea that you need to feel full. Trust me when I say that full is a BAD thing when it comes to eating and post WLS. There's "I ate my measured portion" and there's "Oh god, I'm dying". No in between. Ideally, you should never be full again!

At two weeks out I could not eat 1/2 cup. I could eat about 1/4 cup or so unless it was very watery (soup with protein powder, etc). It took me about an hour to get down my 11oz protein shakes even.

So I'd say cut your amounts, up your protein and go slooooow. Even slower than the 30 minutes. Seriously, I was taking 90 minutes sometimes to finish 1/2-3/4 of an egg. That didn't last very long in the scheme of things and now at 4 months out I can eat a normal pace.

1/2 C is a lot - I was only allowed 1/4 C at your point.

Over the first few months, there will be a lot of stops and starts with food. Only introduce one thing at a time, and if you have a problem, wait a couple of weeks before you try it again. If you have too much discomfort, you might want to go back to shakes for a day.

Take it slow. This is really common. 2 weeks out is really soon.

I had this problem with eggs. So I didn't eat eggs again until month 3.

Is it all food or just certain foods?
