What am I interpreting as stomach hunger?

Day 7 post-op VSG. Yesterday and today I have been aware of a strong physical sensation I have traditionally interpreted as being stomach hunger. I have not felt this before yesterday in a month (3 weeks of mild ketosis b4 surgery).

I used to go for hours without eating and only when the sensation was significant did I finally 'give in' to eat.

With food the 'pain' would go away. After the surgery I wasn't expecting to feel this way again (at least not for a long while an certainly not one week later). So my question is this... if it is not 'actual' hunger pains what is it? Is this acid? Is it the healing of the stomach?

I was so 'hungry' this morning I ate three bites of soft scrambled egg way too quickly and have been 'over full' for an hour and a half... but the hunger pain went away.

I am not concerned about any of it, I am simply confused and curious. Have a great day.

Dollars to donuts it's acid mimicking hunger.

Are you on a PPI? Many need to adjust the dosage, and/or try several types before they find one that works for them.

It can also be head hunger. I could never reliably tell the difference between physical hunger and head hunger.

But I'd still bet on acid. And, it's a lot easier fix than altering your noggin.

I had something similar... at least if I understand what you're describing, it sounds like what I had.

It felt like I had all of a sudden became "hyper-aware" of my stomach, almost all the time. It wasn't pain or anything like that, I just "felt my stomach" all the time, which is why I use the term "hyper-awareness."

I mistook it for hunger, but I think it was part of the healing process. It lasted for about a month, and I did the best I could to suppress it by focusing on my water intake (when appropriate, between meals, and always after waiting at least 30 minutes after eating).

Some people say stomach acid can also cause this, and will recommend you speak to a doctor about getting on a PPI. I was already on a PPI.

Hunger post-op is often from healing, acid, or dehydration.

In the first case - your stomach is still healing, it's a lying liar that lies right now. You can't trust anything it tells you because the nerves were severed and they're reattaching. This causes all sorts of misfires to the brain.

In the second case - taking a PPI can help. Like Grim says, starting to take one if you're not, or finding a stronger one or a different dosage.

In the third case - drink more water. 64 ounces is the minimum you should be getting each day.
