I have a cold,, now what?

Thanks for stopping by. I have my first cold since I quit smoking two years ago, and more importantly my first since surgery (6 wks ago).

This cold comes with head-ache, ear-ache, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing and general body pain. It actually sounds more like a flu bug than it does a cold. I should check my temperature, I don't think I have a fever.

Now Normally I'd turn into my normal 'suckie-sick persona' and whine the whole time that "I'm dying". And truthfully the only thing stopping me is my temporary lack of an audience. Don't worry I'm not asking you to stand in for me, I promise I'll keep the whining in check.

HOWEVER, I am very worried that I've barely managed to get half my protein in for the last two days. I am struggling to swallow anything (including my meds).

The only thing I know to do when I'm sick is fluids, applesauce and rest. I guess I just answered my own question before I could ask it... 'how do I get my protein?' - go back to a full liquid diet! Duh!

Push the fluids. You can go a couple of days without protein, but if you can add protein shakes, great.

Skip the applesauce. It's just wasting calories.

I was very sick a little bit back. Couldn't eat anything for a week. I stuck for drinking water and sipping broths. It sucks being sick. Fluids should be in you constantly never let your glass go empty. Feel better!

Focus on liquids and rest. I find that Dayquil and NyQuil caps work very well. Missing your protein for a few days won't be a huge issue.

Amalilly I hope you have a speedy recovery! Concentrate only on getting better, your body will heal itself. Could you tolerate bone broth? It may heal and restore you. Please get better. I try not to get sick because I hate being sick and can't afford to be sick. But, if I do become ill...yes I do act like a baby and require lots of attention and comfort. So you get all the babying you need and get better!

Don't forget old Vicks vape-o- rub. A small amount will help open your sinuses.

It is better to travel and get lost...

Most important is to keep up your fluids so you stay hydrated

I use a Neti-Pot, take Claratin, drink fluids, rest.

chicken broth nice and warm. Not only will it feel good on your throat but its a good protein.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

UPDATE

I'm back to about 90% better. I have had enough water (fluids) to float a boat. I used Cloraseptic throat spray (Canada - not sure if it is available elsewhere) and Walmart's 'Total Cold and Flu Extra Strength'.

I had lots of sleep and drank like 4L of water a day for the worst few days. I did skip the apple sauce but gave in and drank some Orange Juice because I realized I could mix my unflavored protein powder into it... Solving a couple of my concerns at once.

I did find it weird that I ate Triscuit crackers to 'scratch' my throat. I don't usually like them... but the three or four I had a time felt so good on my throat.

OH, my wife and our roommate both let me be a suck and tolerated my frequent requests to 'kill me now'. It is so awesome to have folks *****ally know and love you around when you're sickos.
