calcium citrate question

Hi, I had my sleeve done long ago and I was wondering if we're still supposed to take calcium citrate. Have been all along, but sometimes medical advice changes over time.

Thank you,

My understanding is we take it for life. At least 1500 mg per day. Same with D3. I'm interested to hear what others have been told.

For life, yes.

In addition, you should make sure to get a DEXA scan to ensure your bone density is acceptable. Also make sure your regular lab work includes PTH (parathyroid hormone) because it will be elevated if your blood is leeching calcium from your bones.

What everyone else said.

You really should have a DEXA scan every 2 or 3 years as well, just to make sure you are on track.

You may not need as much as you did initially, as the farther out we go we can eat more and hopefully healthier than we did initially, but you probably still need some. The lab work is the only way to really know.

I only do one dose (5-600 mg) per day but I am typically consuming 2000 mg or more per day total, including dietary intake, which certainly wasn't happening the first few months. Most all of your supplements need to be reviewed and adjusted periodically as your needs often change.

You should call your medical team. Everyone's recommendation is different. Mine is 600, twice a day.
