Soft Foods Phase - Deli Meat

So in my book from my nutritionist, it says that I can have deli meat. But, it doesn't say specifically what type of deli meat.

I know I'll be able to have ham and turkey. But, what about salami?

Also, had my first piece of wheat toast with peanut butter and I was the happiest girl alive!

Down 4lbs since Friday, I'll take it!

If you can tolerate salami, I don't see a reason not to have it if you can have other deli meat, but you might not be able to since it tends to be firmer, less moist, and more fatty. (Some people have issues with fattier foods early on.)

Salami is certainly a MUCH better choice than toast with peanut butter.

I'll try it and see how it goes. I will be getting some ham and turkey, and a block of colby jack cheese to cube.

I was told (by my nutritionist) that I was allowed to have a piece of whole wheat toast with Simply Jiff pb?

Not sure why you're dogging on my choices here.

Toast isn't going to help you reach your goals. Processed and refined carbs aren't going to help your body heal or lose weight. You're 3 weeks post-op, I believe, and it's much too soon to be reintroducing carbs like bread and applesauce into your diet, regardless of what your nutritionist might say.

I'm not "dogging" your choices, I'm trying to give you constructive criticism as someone who has been through this.

For everything you put into your mouth you should ask "will this help me reach my goals? Is this protein? Is this making the most of the limited stomach space I now have?" Many plans include things like cereal and mashed potatoes and toast and applesauce, but that doesn't mean that a) we should eat them or b) we have to eat them. We can choose to make better choices than our plans allow.

Yeah, stay away from bread for a long time. 7 months out and in maintenance and haven't touched it yet for more than the occasional bite (literally, bite) at a dinner out.

I waited a good while for salami, but mostly because I was afraid it would hurt my stomach. I didn't have any problems once I tried it. It has less protein than the others though.

You can try salami, but be prepared if it goes down harder than ham. Ham and deli chicken worked great for me. Deli roast beef was a lot harder for an extra month or two.

Make sure they slice things extra thin, and chew the heck out of it.

Skip the toast, and the peanut butter too. It's just wasting calories, and you'll find that you can eat a lot of those things pretty soon. I never touched a piece of bread for over a year.

Protein, protein, protein. It's the only thing your body needs right now. Everything else is just slowing you down.

I only eat toast/muffins with PB when below the bottom of my maintenance range (115-118). Too many calories and carbs for me.

How did the toast go down? My nutritionist only wants me to eat ground chicken or turkey, cheese, yogurt and eggs for 6 weeks!

That's good! Toast is not useful to weight loss.

The toast goes down fine! I get car sick easily and I can't drink coke anymore to settle my stomach so I ate a piece of ww toast with butter to settle it and it was totally fine.
